Anti-Gay Amendment To Go To South Dakota Voters
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/03/030105sdBan.htm

South Dakotans will vote next year on a constitutional amendment ban same-sex marriage and ensure the state does not have to recognize gay marriages performed in other states.

The state Senate on Monday approved the proposed amendment for placement on the 2006 general election ballot. The vote was 20-14. The House passed the legislative resolution earlier, 55-14.

Supporters said the measure would bolster a state law that has defined legal marriage in South Dakota since 1996 as the ceremonial coupling of one man and one woman.

1. kiss any chance of winning state wide election goodbye
Every damn time this issue is on that ballot, dems don't have a snowball's chance in hell. Fundies come out of the woodwork voting stright tickets. I wish they would do this in odd years.

2. How do they frame this to children?
How in the world do they explain that in fact NOT all people are created equal, and that liberty and justice is only available to SOME?

I hope conservative parents are put on the spot by their kids when they are asked, "But Daddy, at school we learned that America was started by people who thought that everybody deserved to have an equal say. Has that changed now?"

3. some are more equal than others
it's been done since day one--make your enemies seem less than human

it's easier to destroy them without feeling as guilty
