Sometimes the Scientists make me just love Fundies: Presenting...The Gay Germ
Maybe we don't talk about these people because their language is so dry and hidden, but they are far more dangerous than Phelps or even Dobson. To gay people (outside warzones and free-trade zones)--they may be even more dangerous than Bush or Cheney.

There is an organization called The Human Biodiversity Group (aka The Human Biodiversity Institute) that is not much more than a front for eugenics research. Oh, it's rhetoric is calm and collected. But that's how these people work. They are also "race scientists" as well. The HBG was so toxic that it has been virtually wiped off the internet. But one transwoman kept their dream live :) One of its members started a group called Vdare.com since, which openly named after the first English (white) child born in the US to give up a hint at the level of fucked-upped ness.

Basically, they're saying gay men are an infectious virus unto themselves. They litter their speeches with nods to "ethics" and reminders that "no one chooses to be gay." They seem to think that lesbians are not gay, but rather simply ugly women who don't have sex and commiserate with one another.

Some Quotes:

http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/BaileyAssociates/HumanBiodiversityGroup-II.html#anchor137469
humanbiodiversity.org/

"The following facts about human male homosexuality have been well established. Male homosexuality is neither a recent nor a local (western) phenomenon... Gay men have a later birth order, due to an excess of older brothers...Some existing evolutionary hypotheses, such as kin selection and heterozygote advantage (and its more general formulation), are reviewed and rejected. Two alternative hypotheses, maternal immune response and pathogens (as yet unidentified), are offered.

Given at Johns Hopkins:

"In contrast with difficulties of noninfectious explanations of homosexuality,
the hypothesis of infectious causation does not incorporate critical
logical flaws or contradictions of fundamental biological principles.
Indeed, anecdotal reports indicate that changes in human sexual orientation
have occurred following changes in the limbic area due to trauma or
infection <131, 132>. One possible route would be sexual, whereby homosexual
behavior could facilitate spread because of the larger numbers of
partners homosexual males may have on average, relative to heterosexual
males. Alternatively, transmission could be partly or entirely by one or
more nonsexual routes, and homosexual orientation be a side effect of the
infection that is unrelated to transmission."

Apparently it is now a very private message board. Oh, they also very gently and cheerfully think that black folks and latinos are inferior as well. They make all kinds of unfunny "white men can't jump" jokes. But they're racist scumbags.

1. Most gays I know claim they never remember not being gay
So something is at work... I've suspected there is something that has been biochemically altered in some way. Given that the scientificly sole reason for living organisms to exist is to reproduce and perpetuate the species, then something had to have been changed.

3. No. There's no fucking gay germ. Being gay isn't an infection.
I swear to god... if Fred Phelps was shouting this it would be laughed at. But a team of conservative scientists with an agenda say it so it must be true. These people wrote THE BELL CURVE for god's sake.

9. No, there is no "gay germ"
period, stop. But there is something different at a nano level with body chemistry.

10. I'm a gay man and I can reproduce and perpetuate the species. So can lesbians.
I don't understand why one would pathologize gay and lesbian people with this argument about procreation. Heterosexual people are not the only sexual beings who can produce children. So, if gay people can produce offspring (and they can and do) - this "scientificly (sic) sole reason for organisms to exist" belief system is false.

I see this as a cultural issue. Reproductive ability has nothing to do with it.

2. Not to bump my own thread, but I can call them bigots, right?
As far as I know they're not members of DU. If you are a member, please, let me be the first to apologize. You're are not a bigot, my gentle eugenecist friend.

4. Well, good grief...what next? Will there never be an end to excuses for hatred?
By the way, I know plenty of only children and first-borns who are gay. "Maternal immune response," indeed. These people are batshit crazy. :puke: :puke: :puke:

5. The Freckle Germ
The Left Handed Germ
The Blonde Germ
The Green Eye Germ...

What do these have in common with the Gay Germ?

None of them exist, and the phenomena they describe are not transmitted by pathogens.

6. this is just an extension of the 19th century
pathology of homosexuality -- with a new twist.

make no doubt -- these people want to find a way to wipe us from the face of the earth.

sure does dovetail nicely with ex-gay ministry horse shit.

7. This is scandalous. And some of them are white supremists to boot.
These people are tenured faculty at major research institutes. Some of these people are famous writers. This is why we always hear these horseshit studies about "lesbian fingers" and "second born gays."

Are they doing intensive studies on the biological nature of preferring strawberry to banana flavored yogurt? Wait. Of course they are, my bad. Only they want to multiply our market info and decrease human sexual variability.

I can't believe some of the names here. There emails are listed as well. They're very old, though. This list is from 1999.

8. this shit is dangerous to us.
this is the kind of thinking that allowed people to send gay men and women to asylums like atascadero and do all kninds of interesting -- torture -- to us.

11. LOL, using somewhat scientific logic....
Ok, just for the fun of this.. let us assume for an amusing minute that homosexuality is a "germ".

There are 3 ways a germ spreads.. inhalation, absorption, or ingestion.

If the "gay germ" is inhaled.. then the whole world would easily be gay by now.

If it's through absorption, then it would depend on how it can be absorbed? A firm handshake? Again, the numbers of gay people would be a LOT larger than it is now. Absorbed through sexual contact? That would mean every gay person would have had to be 'straight' at some point to absorb it.

If through ingestion, again, either it would have to come from something ingested, either a food, liquid, or oral sex source... If it's tainted food or liquid, it would be a heck of a lot more widespread than it is. If through oral sex, then again that would presume that every gay person was a heterosexual who one day decided to engage in same sex just for the heck of it...

pretty darn ridiculous suppositions for a 'scientific' community imo.

12. This is unscientific, homophobic bullshit
As others have said, there is no possible pathogenic mechanism by which homosexuality could be transferred from one person to another.

13. It's DISGUSTING...
that science is being used in such a perverted manner!! None of this makes any sense! Oh wait, actually it does. These asshats hate us and will go to any lengths to justify their persecution of us. It's just a small step from "the gay germ" to "not worthy of life".

14. The scariest thing about an anti-gay scientist is that they can't be converted.
A hard core fundie could see the light theoretically. But someone who goes to this length of distorting a logical inquiry into the material world, probably has no hope.
