Committee Backing Gay Marriage Ban In NC Formed
www.wxii12.com/news/29902899/detail.html

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A campaign committee has been formed to raise money and work for approval of an amendment to North Carolina's constitution that would ban gay marriage.

The "Vote FOR Marriage NC" organization has filed paperwork with the State Board of Elections. Initial coalition members include the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, the North Carolina Values Coalition, a group of black pastors and the National Organization for Marriage.

The Legislature agreed in September to put the proposed amendment on the ballot next May.

I hope those religious groups have lost/are losing their tax exempt status. Disgusting.

2. It will be an interesting race
On the plus side we will have a barn burner of a primary for the liberal seat in the triangle which should get our voters to the polls. If we do turnout right that could put us over the edge. There are no similarly conservative seats with primaries.

12. Republican Primary Day
Unfortunately, the vote is scheduled on the Republican primary day. Voting on this amendment is really the only reason for non-conservatives to come out and vote.

13. Not in my Congressional district
We are going to have a barn burner of a Congressional race. David Price vs. Brad Miller. It is a massively democratic district.

4. 56% oppose the amendment in N.C.
a true conservative will also oppose it, the religious right will embrace it. It will be interesting.

7. It had been polling better for us
with 53% or better against the amendment. Betcherass I'm voting against.

That still leaves the "one man, one woman" law on the books.

As usual, the wackogelicals and paultard types have produced no jobs, relieved no burden from the middle class, have continued to screw the poor and unemployed even harder, so they've got nothing else to offer to get their "faithful" to the polls -- who will vote against their own self-interest one more time. It's no use getting them to read the amendment through (even though it's quite short). They don't read and even if they do, they don't comprehend just how far-reaching the amendment is.

I would have thought any southern state except my own would entertain such an evil. If for some reason it passes, we're leaving. They can have their burdensome tax rates and stick it up their ass. I'll not put money in their pocket whilst I remain less than a full citizen. Feck 'em with raygun's dead evil dick.

8. I wish you all the best of luck in N.C.
My State is a lost cause (Florida), unfortunately I have not been able to sell my home so I'm stuck here. :-(

9. We lived in Ft Laud until a little over 10 years ago
We almost bought a couple of times, but when things really started going to hell we said fuggit and came back to NC. My partner is from WV, I'm from Asheville, so the mountains appealed to us and healed.

We did wind up buying a place with a good chunk of land way out in the country in north-central NC, got back to our roots, started doing a bit of farming. It's our dream setup, really; a pack of sweet doggies, fruit trees, tame blackberries, olive and fig trees for a small cash-crop against the day we're old and decrepit. We have one neighbor family whom we love and who loves us back.

That's all nice, but I do wish for full and equal citizenship. This anti-gay bullshit just to bring the wackjobs to the polls has really gotten old and tired. It's making me tired... and when I get tired I get cranky LOL

10. I own property in Kentucky (bad to worse)?
The land has been in our family since the early 1800's and it boarders the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. I need to sell in Florida to build in Kentucky, it may be a mistake but I do have family there & the location is more centrally located for traveling than S.W. Florida is.

11. Family land means a lot
especially to those of us of the southern persuasion.

My late brother fought family wills tooth and toenail where I was mentioned at all ("that faggot doesn't deserve anything at all!"). He mostly lost. What he did manage to grab, he pissed away then drank himself to death on the proceeds, being the good little repug bigot he was. Grubby little bastid. I got my final revenge though. After he was cremated, I was charged of taking his ashes and disposing of them (why does the gay one always get the family jobs nobody else wants?). He wanted them scattered on the graveyard where my granddaddy lies. I wasn't having any of that. I did compromise a bit and give him part of what he wanted. In the beautiful, green valley the cemetery overlooks there's a cow pasture. Guess what plop he plopped on.

Ohhhhhh-kay, looking back, I'm not real proud of it. But I think after all the shit he gave me my whole life it was time for me to give a little right back.

I've got my own peaceful, happy homestead now. There's love, friendship, and respect here. My husbear and I love it here, but at the end of the day a piece of land isn't worth putting up with chattel-status non-citizenship codified in the state constitution. I'll take my higher-bracket tax money to a state where it's more appreciated.
