Canadian Politician Dumped For Opposing Gay Marriage
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/10/101805canMP.htm

When Bev Desjarlais was the lone member of the New Democratic Party to vote against same-sex marriage she knew she might be in trouble. Now she's about to be out of a job.

Desjarlais has failed to win her party's nomination for the next election after the party turned against her. Niki Ashton will carry the party banner in Churchill, in northern Manitoba. Ashton is the daughter of a provincial NDP cabinet minister.

The small opposition New Democrats which have been propping up the minority Liberal government of Prime Minister Paul Martin has long supported full LGBT rights and was instrumental in enacting the marriage legislation last June. (story)

1. You know, this is technically not being dumped.
Just making the point that in Canada the party system is such that every time the nomination process occurs you are out of a job unless you are successfully (re)nominated. This is not so much dumping as not taking her back for the next election.

I don't agree with her stance at all, either.

2. It is such an important issue. So important that Canada does not
degenerate into the hate-filled tribes the USA has. I am so glad the Liberals & the NDP took this on and did the right thing.
