A physician has sued a local anesthesiologists' group alleging discrimination, in which he said he was rejected from a job because he is gay.
Dan Laird, 46, had applied for a job in 2008 with Rainier Anesthesia Associates, a doctors' group that serves Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.
Laird was "highly qualified" for the position and was told by a Rainier Anesthesia administrator that he would be a good fit, according to the complaint filed this week in King County Superior Court.
But during an interview, the administrator "barraged" Laird with a series of illegal questions, including whether he was married, had a family and if his "wife" worked, the lawsuit says.
Laird said the questions left him no choice but to reluctantly disclose that he was gay and in a longterm same-sex relationship.
"From the very second that Laird disclosed his sexual orientation, (administrator Linda) Kreps abruptly changed her tone," the lawsuit says.
