We sat in the park and talked about AIDS in the 80's. The two young women are in a class focused on compiling a cultural history of AIDS. It's a media based project - on the street interviews, targeted interviews (like mine), a compilation of printed stories, movies, plays and local round table type stuff.
Spent about 45 minutes with them for the interview, plus having coffee and doing some set up and getting to know you stuff.
I was really impressed that a. the university has this class and b. these kids chose to take it on.
The discussion ranged from then to now. My role was to add a first person account to those days and sort of bring it into a current context. Made me think a bit - which is always good.
I took the opportunity to reverse things and ask them a question or two for the film. Ha.
Walked away thinking what a good thing that 20 or 30 so undergraduates signed on to a class - "AIDS, Art, Film and History" .
