1. It's a shame there aren't more Vince Lombardis in the league now.
He absolutely hated racism and homophobia, and didn't tolerate it from any of his players. It would be nice if someone in the league with the stature of a Lombardi would take the same stand.

Having said that, this is still heartening to see, as was this story...

TE Jeremy Shockey is a notorious homophobe...and it's extremely doubtful he's the only one. While I applaud these two fine gentlemen for standing up for what is right, the fact remains that professional sports (and the US military) are the still the strongest bastions of homophobia in the US...and football is almost certainly the worst offender.

While a handful of ex-players have come out, none of them were household names on the order of a Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, or Tom Brady. Football needs its gay Jackie Robinson to come out while he's still playing; that would do more to change attitudes than a hundred pro-gay marriage endorsements.
