Murphy: DADT repeal coming shortly
Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.), the straight Iraq war veteran helming the House bill to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” has told the Huffington Post he expects the legislation will be on President Obama’s desk “in a short matter of time”:

Murphy has 168 co-sponsors for legislation that would repeal “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”, as well as several commitments from party leadership that the bill will come to a vote.

He said that the considerable anger directed at President Obama for failing to address the subject sooner was understandable but ultimately misplaced.

“President Obama has clearly said he wants to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” Murphy said. “He has instructed as Commander in Chief his Secretary of Defense and chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff to be prepare to implement the policy but he has respect for the legislative branch, a co-equal branch, and said, ‘Guys, I want a bill on my desk. And when it comes on my desk I’m going to sign it to repeal this.’”

2. Thanks, Political Tiger.
I sure hope this story is correct. DADT is a dumb-ass policy. GLBT folks and their allies should do e-mails and phone calls to their Reps and Senators on this, so that Washington and the White House get the idea that voters support the repeal of DADT. Give the elected officials lots of encouragement and love.

Let's all hope that Obama and the Democrats don't wimp out on us. Right now is not the time to turn away or turf any qualified and willing soldiers.

3. hope so! this has been big for us to hear, but hearing TYT mention the NYT article about no public
option has got me stirring. I hope the NYT's story is wrong.... I will be so let down if that's true.

But again, this is great news about DADT if it happens soon.

5. Then Why Did He Pressure Hastings to Not Push for Non-Enforcement?
Obama has worked AGAINST a repeal of DADT, as he has worked AGAINST a repeal of DOMA.

I'll be delighted to eat my words if he actually signs legislation repealing either.
