Rate of rejected signatures opposing same-sex referendum in Washington increases

(Washington) The error rate of signatures for Referendum 71 in Washington has increased according to the secretary of state’s office. R-71 supporters are trying to do away with the state’s new same-sex domestic partnership law.

On Tuesday, 14.4 percent of the 5,815 signatures that had been checked were rejected. Out of 17,317 signatures that have been checked so far, 15,067 have been accepted.

“The error rate was the highest of any seen during the first three days of scrutiny,” said Dave Ammons, secretary of state spokesman.

2. Good Deal
I was working with the "Decline to Sign" folks to get people not to put that on the ballot. I worked with the clergy community to make statements opposing any roll back of GLBT rights. We were in Olympia to witness their bringing in the petitions...they were disorganized and put out a press release BEFORE they turned in their petitions stating that they will litigate the case. To me that means they don't feel they have the required numbers...otherwise they would have been crowing about looking forward to the campaign ahead!
