And a guy is standing on the corner with a Fenty sign handing out campaign literature. I say "Isn't he the mayor who just lost the election?" And the guy says "That was a primary and 104,000 (or maybe he said 140,000?) people didn't vote. We're asking folks to write the mayor in on the general election ballot."

And I say "Well I'm a teacher and I was glad he lost". And the guy says "But he got you all that money! Don't you want a big raise?"

And I say "Don't you get it? We aren't in it for the money".

And I start to walk away. The guy yells at me "What about accountability?"

I shrug my shoulders and keep walking.

So I go get my drink and I'm walking back and the guy is still standing there talking to folks on the street. Another guy tries to hand me a push card and I say "No thanks". And the first guy turns around, looks at me and tells his partner "She's that crazy teacher who doesn't want a raise! Don't waste your time with her!"

So if I could change my user name here I'd be thatcrazyteacher.

10. I'm well aware...
My grade school teachers never made much money. They did it for the love of the students and the job they were doing.

I've often said we have the wrong 'heroes'. There are so many better people to look up to.

2. I am glad Fenty lost.. something about that guy bothered me from the start..
I particularly did not like the Fenty/Rhee alliance. Hope the new mayor dumps her.

12. Do you remember the city pre-Tony Williams?
Fenty's appeal was a break from corruption and nepotism. Unfortunately he pissed off way too many people in the process with his "my way or no way" attitude.

9. Well I hope your drink was worth more than the price of the guy's admission
to the crazy land.

In crazy land integrity=ignorance

In crazy land compassion=impairment

In crazy land competence= revolution
