4. I surveyed the site and as far as I can tell,
it is an initiative that the Chicago system plans to adopt and be implemented by it's teachers. It apprears to be a rudimentary initiative very similar to one we adopted five or six years ago and is still in place, as far as I know. Ours was from "Lorraine Monroe." I'm sure the Danielson framework will parallel what the teachers' are currently doing and only "tweak" a few things here and there, nothing major.

5. I don't recognize the name, but it seems like...
...a pretty standard framework for clarifying what teachers should be able to do. The 'evaluation' page reiterates the importance of reliable and valid data...which is lacking at present in many places.

8. My district is exploring the possibility of using this system.
I think, if implemented well, it could be quite productive.

So far, a committee of teachers and admins has read and discussed the "Framework for Teaching" book, and admins have played around with some of the informal observations that are part of the process; informal because they are not used as part of any formal evaluation.

They are still experimenting. If and when they decide to recommend this model as the new evaluation process, the committee will create new forms, language, and procedures, will present it to the board, and the union will weigh in. Since it's a supportive, rather than a punitive, model, I don't see our union objecting. They may weigh in on the specifics of how the model will be used before an agreement is reached. At that point, they'll be communicating regularly with us.

I have the book, "Enhancing Professional Practice," which is about the framework as a whole, not just for evaluation purposes. Here is a link that will explain the framework itself in more detail:

11. I did a search to find the page since there was no link.
http://www.danielsongroup.org/theframeteach.htm

I have been trying to tell people that teachers have always been evaluated. I don't know the name of the system used in our county, or even if it has a name.

But when I saw that page I thought it was just about the same.

The domains even sound about the same.

Domain 1: Planning and Preparation Domain 2: The Classroom Environment
# Demonstrating Knowledge of Content
and Pedagogy Demonstrating
# Knowledge of Students
# Setting Instructional Outcomes
# Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources
# Designing Coherent Instruction
# Designing Student Assessments
# Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport
# Establishing a Culture for Learning
# Managing Classroom Procedures
# Managing Student Behavior
# Organizing Physical Space
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities Domain 3: Instruction
# Reflecting on Teaching
# Maintaining Accurate Records
# Communicating with Families
# Participating in a Professional
# Community
# Growing and Developing Professionally
# Showing Professionalism
# Communicating with Students
# Using Questioning and Discussion
# Techniques
# Engaging Students in Learning
# Using Assessment in Instruction
# Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness

I am so frustrated over the fuss about teachers not being evaluated enough. We had stuff like this for years and years.

13. California has the "Standards for the Teaching Profession", but no consistent form of using them...
...in assessment except with interns and pre-clear credential teachers.

Here's the graphic:
