As many as 1,000 Nevada teachers may lose jobs in cuts

As many as 1,000 teachers statewide and 150 in Washoe County could lose their jobs after the expected route of the special session of the Legislature, said Keith Rheault, the superintendent of public education for Nevada.

“I’m guessing roughly it will be 600 to 1,000 teachers,” Rheault said Tuesday during the opening day of the special session in Carson City.

“I think there will be (layoffs) just because we will have $178 million in cuts,” Rheault said, referring to the amount of the proposed 10 percent cut of state funding that public education is expected to absorb.

He'll suspend his camppaign to fly in and help with some GREAT IDEA! After all, he did so well with that the last time!
