My Brother-In-Law, Lord of the Pigs

In a remote area of South Carolina near Charleston to be precise live Jack and Frances my brother and sister in law.Their property is located on a black water tidal creek. Across the narrow black water creek is a small island. On the small island Jack stranded a couple of pigs to raise for food.

To aid in feeding the pigs stranded on the island and being raised for food Jack made an elaborate 'pig feeding device' which dumped corn to the pigs when Jack operated an electric control switch located on the human side of the black water creek.

Now as pigs often do they grew older and they copulated and they made a whole bunch of cute little piglets of various designs and colors. (So Frances told me via E-Mail). When Jack operates the feeding device the pigs oink, oink, oink, grunt and squeal as pigs do when interested in eating. They adore the feeding device as one might adore a God.

The times that Jack goes to the island to replenish the feeding device the pigs greet him by jumping happy up and down while oinking and grunting and squealing. The pigs also love the 'Lord Jack' that feeds them and loves them. Yes he do.

They sent us some pictures of the cute little pigs and piglets they used to be raising for food.

is a subsistence hunter-born and raised in East Tennessee. He has had several interesting experiences with pigs-domestic and feral.

I am curious. Where did you think the story was going?

Pigs are really smart. And convenient in so many ways.

Do you watch "Deadwood"?

6. No I am not familiar with "Deadwood"

One time Jack gained permission to hunt deer in a farmers woodlands. The farmer failed to mention he had hogs living in the woods. Jack bagged three of them. Oh boy the farmer was pissed. Jack had to pay for the hogs and the farmer kept the hogs for himself.

I do not think Jack could butcher his own pigs.

4. Sort of along an Animal Farm type of scenario. Or at the very least I was

thinking they ended up as food for Jack and family.

I guess I was thinking a number of things that were upsetting rather than it being a story about a rather nice guy who took it upon himself to feed a couple (more later) wild pigs. Then the pigs started to look upon him as sort of a savior. Not unlike the deluded way fundies look toward pResident Unelected.

7. Lord of the pigs is right

because if Jack didn't own that island, what he did was ruin one of our coastal wetland habitats, most of which are bird sanctuaries, by turning pigs out on it. Did he even bother to check the legality of it?

and the surrounding lands. He is away from the coastal reserves now.

We all used to live near the Santee Delta where such a thing would be forbidden.

The title made me believe you had a not-so-nice brother-in-law.

I loved the story. I believe that anyone who has spent time with pigs cant help but love them. They are smart, playful, and have such a zest for life (especially when it comes to eating things!).
