Who wants to play football at Penn State?
I just talked to someone I know whose son will be a freshman next season.

They just got the training packet. It is about 3 inches thick (1/3 of that is just the nutrition part).

One (ONE) of the tests he has to pass as a "skill player" is running 16 100 yard sprints (they still run 100's?) in 16 seconds or less each with only 30 seconds of recovery time.

My legs and lungs hurt just thinking about that one test.

Yikes.

2. Playing for a washed up coach
who won't let go. Poor Nittany fans.

3. 16 100s on the 45 isn't so bad. Amazing what young bodies
can be trained to do. And thank god they're setting nutritional guidelines.

When I played, it was steak and eggs before games, no water allowed and keep your helmet on during practice; swallow fistfulls of salt pills after. Ugh.

4. My buddies and I laugh about that now
The helmet thing drove me nuts. Why? What is the purpose of standing there in a helmet on a 90 degree 90 percent humidity day? Will it really make a MAN out of me?

My three closest friends and I played HS football together-three of us played little league together.

Back in the 80's one water break in each "two a day" practice. One of my buddies is now a certified (you name it) physical trainer and he laughs at that barbaric practice. It is amazing we didn't have people dropping out all over the place back then. Maybe it DOES make a MAND out of you.

No probably not.

we would run 20 long length suicides. followed by suicide hills. and that was BEFORE practice. Do it again after.

when you're 18, you're invincible.

6. I have a friend going I-AA
He got two 3 inch binders, with both is lifting and conditioning info. He also has a special diet guide, which he has to follow all the time... On our high school team we ran 12 80s for our test. Our coach said that this college test for the University of the South, was full field suicides(5 back, 10 back,...) and then they had all these other crazy running drills. They aren't hard if you train and are ready for them...
