Miami Hurricanes, Notre Dame could renew football rivalry
<snip>

"After a nearly two-decade break, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said the Fighting Irish is "very interested" in playing Miami again in football, and the interest is mutual.

UM's Kirby Hocutt initiated talks with Swarbrick, who became Notre Dame's athletic director in July. No dates are set, but talks will resume in April, Swarbrick said by phone Monday.

NBC's Notre Dame contract includes seven Irish home games and one prime-time neutral site game annually through 2015. "You could do that," Swarbrick said of the neutral site game, "plus do one home and home."

UM and Notre Dame played annually (1971-1985 and 1987-1990) before the Irish discontinued the series. A Notre Dame student printed "Catholics vs. Convicts" T-shirts before the epic 1988 game in South Bend, Ind., which Notre Dame won 31-30. UM won five of the past seven meetings and hostilities rose during and after Miami's 58-7 win in 1985, when the Canes were accused of running up the score.

Playing Miami is appealing, Swarbrick said, because "they are two great academic institutions. We're eager to play schools that share our values. There's a lot of great history around the games."

1. Yeah ND pulled a Gator stunt
and ditched the rivalry after years of UM beating their asses.

I remember that romp back in 85 ---- pure beauty--- and I remember Ara Parseghian crying about Miami running up the score.

The next day a Miami writer posted all the run-up scores that ND did over the years against teams like Army.

73-0 like scores.

6. Yeah--- NC champion in 2001
and a shit call away from being NC champs in 2002.

More current All Pro football players in the NFL than any college football team.

Your thesis is shit.

8. I said USED to be good
lets look at UM's record over the last few years:

2006..7-6

2007..5-7

2008..7-6

So, over the last 3 years the Canes have a record of 19-19...that's the definition of mediocrity.

Btw, did I forget to mention that UM was humiliated 40-3 by LSU in the 2005 Peach Bowl?

The Hurricanes are no longer an elite program, neither is ND. They can start a series back up again, but it won't be like the old days.

9. Miami last played ND in 1985.
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 02:57 PM by trumad
Your statement said that's the last time Miami was good.

I was simply correcting your stupid ass.

As far as elite---- Miami had the same thing happen to them in the nineties. BUT---Butch Davis---the best college recruiter in the history of football, brought them back to being one of the best college teams ever.

Coker fucked that up and is gone... Shannon is back to recruiting the best high school players in the country--- South Florida--- and they'll be kicking ass once again.

You're knowledge of Miami football is shit----

10. The winner gets to play in the Poulan Weed Wacker Bowl....
When Miami U upgraded their schedule from the incredibly weak Big East to the very weak ACC, they doomed themselves to 7-5 records and losing conference records. That's all it took.

Here's to 2 schools that have every asset and still can't win football games. I'm prayin' for 8-4's for both of these program's buffoon coaches so they'll have to re-up them....forever.

...but Miami has been BAD...and without guys like Jimmy Johnson hanging out at his local parole office to recruit, Miami doesn't have a prayer.

25. Another ignorant post .....
There are many other colleges in America that have just as many problems as Miami. Florida---Alabama, FSU etc.

Butch Davis came to town and became one of the best recruiters in college football history. The All Pro's in the NFL from Miami were most likely recruited by Davis.

You're racist bullshit about Miami is just that--- fucking racist.

Douche
