The real problem with the Cowboys: Too chatty!
In an effort to plug the leaks that have made Ed Werder the most feared man at Valley Ranch, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has put a gag order on all his employees, including head coach Wade Phillips. For those of us who cut our teeth during the Parcells era in Dallas, the silencing of assistant coaches isn't a new concept. In fact, I came to embrace the concept.

The more Parcells did to muzzle his assistants, the more they wanted to talk. And some of my best sources at Valley Ranch were cultivated during that time period. (Never mind the fact that most of them are employed elsewhere now.)

But the Phillips gag order is highly unusual. In fact, I called around to some of my colleagues in the business this morning (Farmer, Chadiha, Darlington, Archer) to see if they'd ever heard of something like this. Well, they haven't

This is pretty funny...Bad press is what made them miss the playoffs? Bad press is what makes Tony Romo a choke artist in critical situations? Whatever Jerry....

1. I had the pleasure of listening to 6 hours of Deadskin radio the last couple of days,
(don't ask), and they were blasting Vinnie Cerrata about his answers to (or his inability to answer) questions about whether Jason Taylor will be back next year. Even my boss seemed flumoxed by Cerrata!!

I gotta kick out of the DC guys admitting that Roger Staubach and what he accomplished was quite amazing.

2. So, you jumped on the Cowboy bandwagon during the Staubach era
Is that what I'm hearing?

4. Its Vinny Cerrato btw.
And as far as I know, Vinny isn't telling Jim Zorn to:

:P

Why are you surprised about Washington guys praising Staubach? We are pretty knowledgeable about football up here and willing to recognize real talent....:P

8. Hmm. It was just surprising.
I have not heard them talk about Troy Aikman that way. Or are the emotions still too raw for them??

9. You must not have been listening to Doc Walker
As an ex- Skin from the first Gibbs era, he hates the Boyz as much as anyone (and he loves to bait the local Boyz fans) but I've heard him say nice things about Aikman...

3. Gag order or no
I don't think the Cowboys can win with Wade Phillips. Oh, they'll be competitive and everything, but win it all?.....not until they have a coach who commands respect in the locker room.

7. Yeah, this should fix everything.

Well, this, a new coach, a few defensive backs that aren't the guy who single-handedly forced the NFL to adopt the horse-collar rule, and somebody to talk Tony Romo down from the ledge every time an important game isn't going his way.

Actually, just those last three things.

10. Wow! And the big fix was staring us in the face all along!
Sometimes the obvious reasons just escape us...kudos to this guy for showing us the light!
