Flip Saunders (Timberwolves coach) fired
It's about freaking time.

Just breaking on ESPNews.

And no, I don't think this season is all his fault. Spree and Cassell have been whiners who are growing old before our eyes, the Olowakandi signing was a horrible mistake (yet another one by McHale).

But the point remains that he managed to coach them out of the first round exactly one time in 8 years, and followed it up with a sub-.500 season. I think he lost the players, to be honest. He handed control of the team to KG, which is never a good idea.

Question now is, who do they hire? Phil will be mentioned, of course. I still think Michael Cooper deserves a chance somewhere, as does Jeff Bzdelik. Maybe they can hire one of the Patriots' assistants. :-)

1. that's a team not going anywhere
poor Garnett, stuck with a bunch of bums (minus Cassell, who used to play for the Nets and I still have a soft spot for because I think he's underrated).

Phil Jackson will be the first choice and it wouldn't shock me to see him go there.

He likes coaching great players and Minnesota has one, if not THE best player in the game today.

I'm still kicking myself that Rod Thorn didn't pull off a Kenyon Martin/Richard Jefferson for Garnett deal when McHale offered it.

Maybe the Nets can sign him when he becomes a free agent. How sick would a starting five of Kidd, Carter, Jefferson, Garnett and Krstic be?

2. It would be so sick
there's no way you could afford it. Remember, there's a salary cap out there.

Unless KG takes a Malone/Payton cut in hopes of a title. In 4 years. Because he's signed until the end of the '08/'09 season, and is currently pulling twenty million a year.

Jersey currently has two max contracts (Kidd and Carter).

To trade for KG, you'd have to trade your entire roster, except for Kidd, Carter, and Elden Campbell (Carter and Campbell can't be traded this season). I'm thinking the Four Horsemen concept won't cut it in the NBA. :hi:

Oh, according to RealGM.com, McHale is likely to take over coaching duties.

3. More likely Kidd will get traded to T-Wolves
Than Garnett going to Jersey...Glen Taylor won't let Garnett get away unless Garnett insists!

4. I could maybe see that
Kidd for Cassell and Hassell and Ervin Johnson works with the salary cap. Works out much better for New Jersey, though, by the stats.
