Curlin retired to Lanes End

Curlin has been retired and will stand at Lanes End for $75,000.00

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/breeding-news/2008/November/21/Curlin-standing-at-Lanes-End.aspx

Mr. Jackson was thinking of racing him one more time if the right opportunity and the right
purse materialized, but I hope he doesn't go for one more race. I think when it's over, it's over.
Going for one more pot of gold doesn't seem right when the horse has already done everything
you asked him to do.

1. Good. I agree with you.
It was a pretty exciting run he had wasn't it?

2. He is a good horse - the best dirt horse in the world.

I'll have to look up his pedigree and see what his female family looks like.
I hope he passes on his soundness. We need it.

3. Considering that he was not an early developer...
do you think there will be a lot of interest in him? Is he gonna get a real chance at proving himself? What's your opinion?

4. They said he did not race early at two because he had an ocd.
I think it was in an ankle. So they had to give that time to heal and for his bones to mature.
But once he started, he never looked back.

OCD's are genetic though and I would wonder how much of that he would pass on to his offspring.

5. I've dealt with a family that had OCD's
a broodmare passed them on to all her offspring. I think there is a study that links OCD's to the mare's protein intake during pregnancy. I think I read that anyways.

I bought one of this broodmare's colts at auction pretty reasonably because of OCD's in his hocks. I sent him to MSU and had them removed before he was a 2 YO. He was good when he was good and bad a lot of the time. I couldn't race him a lot. He did get me to the Breeders' Futurity and I loved him for that.

I still have the OCD's they removed in a container in my desk drawer. Haha.
