Tiger Woods done for the season
L.A. Times, 6-18-08:

Tiger Woods will miss the rest of the season because of a left knee that will require more surgery, he announced on his website today.

Woods will have reconstructive surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament.

"I know much was made of my knee throughout the last week, and it was important to me that I disclose my condition publicly at an appropriate time," Woods said on his website. "I wanted to be very respectful of the USGA and their incredibly hard work, and make sure the focus was on the U.S. Open. Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is to listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee."

No date for the surgery has been announced.

1. During a presser, he mentioned this when asked, "what did your doctors say?"
Tiger: "Don't play golf"

I told friends Tiger gonna give it up...a year...maybe 2....maybe forever....His knee has had 30 years of abuse..like tennis elbow, etc...once them joints go...its never the same....

To see Tiger limp is a sad sight......he is the Greatest....

3. he won't give it up
yet. He is within striking distance of his childhood dream of passing Jack. I do think he'll be retired by 40, most likely, but I think he can win a Major a year for the next four years and tie Jack, then retire on his billion. I think that if he can play next year, he will. a reduced schedule, sure. Seriously, if NFL players can come back from ACL surgery, Tiger can.

4. so let's say he comes back for the Mercedes
or even the Masters. how many tournaments will Phil Mickelson have to win to catch a non-playing Tiger in the World Golf Rankings?

and who's going to win the Nicklaus or the PotY? Vijay's the only other player to win since 1999...I vote for Rocco Mediate right now, he's the only person with the stones to stand up to a limping, weakend Tiger...

6. Probably Already Too Late
Tiger already won 5 including two that add extra points to the rankings. He also had the 2nd place finish at the Masters.

I don't think there's any way Phil can catch him, unless he goes on a "Tigeresque" run of 6 or 7 in a row.
