Any Gators here?
If so, with all due respect:

Screw you. You're going down.

1. I seriously doubt it
Edited on Fri Mar-23-07 11:33 PM by Awsi Dooger
My preseason ratings had Florida #2 and Oregon #47. That's massive to overcome. I've seen some teams in the 20s defeat some premier teams, like Arizona in '97 and Syracuse a few years ago, but nothing similar from a team in my preseason 40s.

I don't think Oregon has done much. Miami-Ohio was my #85, Winthrop #76 and UNLV #72. The Oregon/UNLV game tonight was BY FAR the weakest matchup of the Sweet 16, neither team in my preseason top 25, in fact not even close to that level.

I'm a Canes fan and I'll certainly root for Oregon against Florida, but I think they get mangled.

North Carolina has the talent to defeat Florida.

3. Why are you
basing it so much on whatever you had everybody ranked in the preseason? Ignoring how the regular season, conference tournament and not to mention how teams are playing right now doesn't make sense.

Florida hasn't played a team with the speed, firepower and conditioning of Oregon yet, and the Gators are ripe for the picking.

4. Has Oregon played a team with the experience, shooting ability,
and speed of Florida yet? This tournament they've played Winthrop, UNLV, and whoever the 14 seed was. I wouldn't be making any guarantees if I were you.

5. UCLA
Has Florida played a team with the shooting ability, speed and conditioning of Oregon yet?

And Jackson State, Purdue and Butler are heads and shoulders above Winthrop, UNLV and Miami OH? Come on.

But I'm not making any guarantees. I'm simply saying "Screw the Gators."

6. I guess "You're going down" isn't officially a guarantee, but you are
still saying that Florida will lose. People said the same about the Gators before January 8th and they were eating their words afterwards. Florida beat Ohio State by 26 earlier this year, and they are ranked higher than UCLA. Plus the Ducks lost to UCLA later in the year. Winthrop defeated an overrated Notre Dame team, and UNLV a Wisconsin team that was not nearly as good as they were earlier in the year. Butler defeated a Maryland team that seemed to be getting better, and to be honest I don't know much about Arizona. And Oregon only won by 4 last night, after leading big in the 2nd half. A win's a win, but that was much closer than it should have been.

7. True enough
To be honest, the marginal victory against Miami OH had me worried, and blowing an 18 point lead late last night is of some concern. The loss to UCLA came during an awful late-season stretch, but they seemed to have more than returned to early-season form for the conference tourney.

On the bright side, that 18-point lead and victory came with the leading scorer, Brooks, only tallying five points. Highly unlikely that that'll happen again.

If Florida tries to run with the Ducks, they may be in for a surprise. I actually think they'd be tougher with a slow-down halfcourt game. Oregon doesn't have the meat in the middle. Playing an up-tempo game increases the Ducks' chances, IMO.

In any case, as a Canes fan, can you at least gimme a "Screw the Gators?"

I'm a Gators fan, I can't say that. But I'll hope for a good game between 2 very talented teams and will offer my congrats if Oregon wins.

16. OSU better not be the only school, to my knowledge . . .
to get beaten by the same school for the national title in two different sports in the same year.

I'm still not getting how Tressel came so unprepared for an undersized dink-a-dunk offense such as Flah-duh's. I mean, Auburn beat this team without scoring an offensive touchdown.
