My God, do the Eagles SUCK or what?
They are getting SPANKED by Seattle. I have to laugh. I remember at the beginning of the season some Eagles fans on this board were crowing about how the Eagles were going to win the Super Bowl. There was also a ton of trash talk about how the Bears suck. Where are they now? All I have to say is how do you like the Bears now?

THE EAGLES SUCK!!!

4. I've been betting against the Eagles all year
After losing by 1/2 point last week I almost didn't pull the trigger this week but luckily my friend talked me into it an hour before game time.

The Eagles are a deflated team. Kind of sad to watch, really. The recent Super Bowl losers have followed with miserable seasons, not just missing the playoffs but horrible won/loss record. That was one of the reasons I isolated the Eagles to bet against this year.

Philadelphia has been so close in the last four years it's undertandable they can't get motivated to play games when the playoffs are out of reach. Now they just need to regroup and vanquish this season from their mindset. The base personnel is still very good. They will draft higher than their talent level warrants. But the adjustments are not minor and they better stop pretending a running game is unnecessary. It amazes me offensive coordinator Brad Childress can be considered for head coaching jobs based on his ignorant run/pass ratio the last two seasons.

18. I agree..
I think we need to seriously rethink our strategies for games, and Andy Reid needs to reevaluate as well.

The talent is still there, but I still think the injuries have hurt us more than anything. Not an excuse, but just the way it is. These things happen, but at least now we can really look forward to next year.

11. It happens when you have about 5 veterans on your entire team...
Edited on Tue Dec-06-05 11:01 AM by friesianrider
...your star wide receiver is gone, your QB is out for the season, 3/4 of the o and d lines are injured, and 85% of the team are rookies. It's amazing to me that we've managed to win 5 games - I doubt many other teams whose fans say how bad we "suck" would be able to hold it together for as long as we have. The precious few non-rookies we have were desperately trying to hold this season together, and with this many injuries to your players it's impossible. I feel sorry for them. The team has a lot of talent and a lot of heart, but when so many of your starters are out it's just not going to happen. As of yesterday, we'd lost TWENTY ONE of our Super Bowl team players.

I'm so proud of my guys - they want it so bad, and the talent is there, but injuries are part of the game and it's just one of those things. We'll be back next year.

And last I checked, the Patriots still had Brady and a number of their linemen. And if we played in the cushy division the Patriots played do, we'd be tied for first place.

The only thing that soothes my Eagles not being in the Super Bowl is the guarantee the Patriots won't be there either :)

15. Well, let's compare injuries
Pats injuries:

M. Light
T. Ashworth
C. Dillon
K. Faulk
D. Givens
D. Graham
B. Johnson
W. McGinest
P. Pass
J. Sanders
M. Stone
H. Evans
R. Harrison
C. Scott
G. Scott
T. Poole
D. Starks
R. Gay
D. Koppen
(T. Johnson, who retired because of injuries)

Eagles injuries:

A. Hicks
S. Rayburn
D. Roper
T. Pinkston
C. Buckhalter
D. Strickland
P. Grasmanis
D. Johnson
J. Short
H. Fraley
S. Considine
D. McNabb
L. Sheppard
T. Thomas

So, by my math, the Pats have 19 players who are either injured or permanently out for the season. The Eagles have 14 players injured or out.

Seems pretty similar to me.

19. The Pats had a legit shot this year prior to the injuries
IMO, the Eagles did not, coming off the devastation of a Super Bowl loss and with the flawed handicapping that a running game wasn't necessary.

I think it was the Steeler game that crippled the Pats, even though they pulled it out. If I remember correctly Matt Light and Rodney Harrison were lost for the season in that game. That's the enforcer in the secondary plus the blindside protector. That meant playing another rookie on the OL and a depleted and questionable secondary dropped even further.

You didn't even mention Richard Seymour, a terrific player. He missed games including the Colts game on Monday night.

I do think Belichick made some strange mistakes this year, specifically on defense. The cornerbacks are vulnerable and Vince Wilfork although talented is not exactly a run stuffer yet, certainly not to the level of a Keith Traylor who the Pats chose not to re-sign. Traylor has been a revelation for my Dolphins this year, great penetration and disruptive ability even at age 35.

23. I think the Vikes can be in the playoffs
if they win 3 of the next 4. If they win 2 of 4, and the gods smile on them, they could still make it.

I liked Johnson when he was here before and did not think we should get rid of him. He seem anti-climactic after the power of Culpepper but he has such good touch and placement.

30. As an Eagles fan, I have to agree with Dave...
Seattle really did nothing spectacular to win the game - it was all the Eagles sucking. Unfortunately for us, Seattle's offense could have just stayed home, that's how bad we played. If the Seahawk's offense had never stepped on the field, Seattle still would have won 28-0.

They won because we sucked so bad. Like I said, when the team in question's offense could have never set foot on the field and still won 28-0, then it's not because they're so good. It's because we're so bad, unfortunately.

I remember when Jevon walked off the field Monday he said "it's just one of those." Happens to every person who has ever played a sport, and to every professional team. We're just so spoiled from being so good for so long.

I'm almost relieved - it would have been horrible to win from here on out and miss the WC by one game or something. Now we can relax a little, get a far better draft pick than we deserve, and look forward to next year :) Our time is coming, we deserve it.

But, we played a damn good game against New York with McMahon and hardly any of our starters, so I think next season when everyone is back and healthy we won't have a problem. But of course, it's hard to say since being an Eagles fan, I'm partly delusional from the get-go :)

It'll be interesting to see Sunday's game, but if the Giants win as predicted it will be excellent news for you and bad news for Dallas, who need the Eagles to win. I'd rather see New York win the division ANY day over Dallas. :puke:

40. we'll see
the league isn't static. Look at the difference in McNabb from year 2 to 3. You'll see the same thing with Eli Manning. He's good now, but he'll be a whole lot better. The Giants defense will also continue to improve as their young corners get the experience they need. We also have a very young OL that continues to grow. I think the Eagles will be good next year, but the Giants will be the favorites.
