Are the New York pundits now crucifying Eli Manning? I suppose..
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 08:04 PM by MnFats
...I suppose they should. Four interceptions and all.
But hey, if you make NFL history by returning a kickoff, pass interception and a punt for touchdowns, you deserve to win.....even if you're outgained four-to-one.

3. i think in due time he'll be a pretty good player
Edited on Sun Nov-13-05 08:38 PM by MalachiConstant
but it's a bit early for all the hype he's getting. he's received much more credit than he deserves. but then again quarterbacks always do.

4. Helluva game, wasn't it
I was screaming at the TV everytime one of the doofus announcers made comments about the lack of offensive yardage the Vikings had.

I was screaming, "Look at the fucking scoreboard, you idiots, those are the only numbers that matter!"

And could they have fellated Eli any more?

16. How DARE you criticize Favre! His father died!
No one else in NFL history has ever lost a parent and played a game afterwards!

Eh, the Monday Night Fellation of Favre has kinda run it's course. And Peyton's got the personality of a grocery bagger. NFL and the networks are scrambling for a new superstar.

9. "the lack of offensive yardage the Vikings had"
Well, what else do you expect them to talk about?

There were 3 themes yesterday, Eli being out of synch, the Vikes doing squat on ofeense and the returns. All 3 in the great traditions of football annoucing were talked to death.

"And could they have fellated Eli any more?"

Coming from a "Love Boat" fan, I found this hilarious.

In fact I would think a loss would be better for the Vikes at this point. Anything to assure that Tice is gone as head coach next year I would consider a good thing.

5. Nah, the fans have plenty of patience in reserve
At least based on my trips to Giants training camp in Albany this summer. Shockey is the god and Eli is the savior. One game or specifically a few telegraphed throws won't change that.

Oh, you said pundits, not fans. Yeah, the worst ones predictably blow with the wind.

6. If he does this two years from now they'll crucify him....
...they'll give him a break for a bit. I thought the whole mess with his Daddy doing his dirty work for him in the draft was sickening. Besides, the amount they paid him was ridiculous. He may end up being a decent quarteback, but I doubt he'll ever be one of the greats, and that will be a disappointment for the Giants because they pretty much pinned their hopes on his being one.

10. "his Daddy doing his dirty work for him in the draft "
His dadddy didn't do shit. Eli did this.

Being a DUer and a Boston fan I am sure you are well aware of the BS relationship major sports teams and newspapers have. Well in San Diego, their GM and ownership are complete assholes. Anytime a player makes a peep about contract stuff they bury him in the paper. After Eli, it was Rivers. Even Antonio Gates was attacked for crissakes.

So let's make this simple.

Eli(not his dad, brother or mother) tells San Diego he doesn't want to play for them. If you regard that as bad, I have no problem with that.

Why did Eli do that?

Well, the Chargers org is a bunch of asshats. Last year, when they went to the playoffs, the Chargers had 5 of 8 home games blacked out. This was the first time there were blackouts games because the city had finally gotten rid of a ticket guarantee signed by the city and the Chargers to get Qualcomm renovated for Super Bowls and to prevent the Chargers from going to LA. This cost the city millions of dollars. They are now demanding a new stadium and threatening to leave. When dealing with any contract negotiation, they lowball their players and when the player balks he finds an unflattering piece in the paper. Who went to the papers first during the whole Eli mess? I am sure you will know the answer after reading the above.

So how to cover up that you screwed up and pissed off a potential franchise QB? Bury him....make it a rejection of San Diego whose residents have one of the worst inferiority complexes this side of Boston. Fans forget the asshole GM and ownership and shift their anger to the player.

11. Sorry, but it was his father who went public and told them NOT
to draft Eli. It wasn't anything close to what you're imagining. Never did Eli or his Daddy say he didn't want to play for San Diego, he TOLD them not to draft him. It's a big difference, and it's the height of arrogance.

12. You are wrong....
It was the Chargers, specifically their weasely GM who went public claiming Eli didn't want to be on the team citing Archie. The press then went to Archie for comment.

"It's a big difference, and it's the height of arrogance"

I don't see that big a difference. Both are arrogant as hell.

My issue is with claims his daddy did it. This was Eli's move.

Everything else is CYA crapola pumped out by the Spanos family.

13. My point was that saying you don't want to play for a team and telling
them you won't...in fact, specifically telling them that you better damn well not draft my son is indeed the height of arrogance.

Yup, Eli did it all on his own--bullcrap. Daddy did it, and then big borther Peyton showed up at the draft because poor little Eli was so upset at everyone booing him every time his name was mentioned.

A sniveling little toad.

17. I agree with your point but you're wrong on the details....
...I know it makes for easier for the insults but its still wrong.

" everyone booing him every time his name was mentioned."

Yeah and he took it. And he took in San Diego.

Besides that face he made when he had to wear the Charger cap was hilarious.

18. Well, we're obviously not going to agree, but it ain't worth losing
sleep over.

On a related subject, do you think the Giants will go anywhere this year, play-off-iwse? I was starting to think they might until this past Sunday. They have a good record in part due to the fact that they have a weak scheulde and the NFC East really isn't so hot this year. Then they went and beat Denver and I thought maybe they might do something. But Sunday--geesh!--this should have been a cakewalk, and if you can't win at home against Minnesota, I don't know....

19. Classic letdown game.....
You're at home vs. a team that sucks. They never got it going on offense and the special teams stunk(partly because our best ST player was out). The next week's game is against a division rival. Etc. Losses like that happen. I had a bad feeling going in, it didn't get better with two consecutive turnovers in our own end(though remarkably no points given up)

I still liked seeing Eli lick his wounds and then rally the team. That's what makes him special....though I could certainly do without 4 ints.

I still think the playoffs are a real possibility as is the division crown. I think the NFC East is going to send two teams this year.

Here's my breakdown for the rest of the season:

Eagles: definitely a winnable game, at home vs. an ailing McNabb if he even plays. I like our chances.

at Seahawks - tough game, yet another West Coast trip. This is a likely loss.

Cowboys - at home, division implications, still a real tough game....this one is a tossup.

at Eagles - again this will largely depend on McNabb playing and how hurt he is. another tossup though I have to lean towards the Giants.

Chiefs - I think we can win this game but this game a bit far out to make serious projection.

at Redskins - after the beating they got, they will have motivation but I think we are better than them.

at Raiders - final West Coast trip but the Raiders stink, I'll call it a tossup.

So we have 3 games I think we should win, one I think we'll lose and 3 tossup games that we can win. 3 wins puts us at 9-7 and in the playoffs with a WC. 4 wins could take the division.

21. I think the two games that will tell are Dallas at home and also
Kansas City. I think the Giants can take both games from Philly. In Seattle they'll get creamed.

20. the NFC East isn't so hot
Its the best division in football top to bottom. The Giants will make the playoffs with at least 10 wins.

8. No one derserved that win...not the Giants and not the Vikings...
Both teams were terrible and one got the win.

Eli will not be crucified. Its his 2nd year and he's alot farther along than expected.

Yesterday, he was just awful. He never seemed in synch, throwing behind and over receievers almost all day.

Of course the Giants D picks the one time to let the Vikings get ANY yardage at the end. But them's the breaks.

Big Blue is still in 1st and have a big game this weekend.
