Racial comments by AFA's DeBerry draw criticism...(link)...
He Must Have Been Channeling Jimmy The Greek

By Associated Press
October 26, 2005

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry, expressing frustration Tuesday with the Falcons' slumping performance, attributed the latest loss in part to No. 20 TCU's having more black players who "can run very, very well."

DeBerry, in his 22nd year at the Air Force Academy, first mentioned the academy's lack of minority players compared to other schools while talking to reporters Monday.

He said Air Force needed to recruit faster players. "We were looking at things, like you don't see many minority athletes in our program," DeBerry told The Gazette of Colorado Springs.

When questioned about the remarks during his weekly luncheon Tuesday, the coach didn't hesitate to elaborate. ........................

7. Hehe, no it sure hasn't.
Fortunately the Red Sox have a talented trio of Jews I can root for, Gabe Kapler (who may have to retire, unfortunately) Kevin Youkilis (who the Sox hope to put in a starting role next season) and Adam Stern (new guy promoted from the minors for a couple games this year).

5. As A Football Fan
I have long admired the man as a football coach. I think he is or was one of the nations best and most underated and has done some amazing coaching jobs. As a human being I'm starting to find him lacking and I am losing more respect for him daily.

6. My Problem
My problem with things like this is the idea I get that while certain people at these schools do not like it when black kids want to come to their schools to get educations they have no problem using these same black kids to win games. No matter how much you hear people complaining about Affirmative Action you somehow never hear then complain about how athletes are allowed to get into certain school mainly due to lower requirements. When it comes to getting an education certain people do not want to hear talk about a black kid getting into certain schools; however, if that same school needs to win a few football or basketball games they have no problem bringing in the black kids or actively going after the black kids. I think the Air Force Academy is one of those schools where some may think you can play on our teams, but do not try to come hear and get an education. I am not saying the AFA is racist I just think some people at the school hold the previously mentioned view. I think many people in the country have that same view.
