Seve Ballesteros' condition worsens
Sounds very grim...very sad...

http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=6491637

MADRID -- Golf great Seve Ballesteros has suffered "severe deterioration" in his recovery from a cancerous brain tumor and is being cared for at home.

The 54-year-old Spanish star was resting at his home in the northern Spanish town of Pedrena, where he has mostly been since undergoing four operations in late 2008, his family said Friday.

"The family will inform accordingly about any change in his health condition and takes this opportunity of thanking everyone for the support that both Seve and his own family have been receiving during all this time," a statement on the golfer's website said.

It said his "neurological condition has suffered a severe deterioration."

1. Very sad.
He was the most exciting player to watch in his day.

2. That's fucked up.
Wasn't SEVE in contention in the 86' Masters that Jack won at 46 years old?
I seem to remember seeing that in a ESPN special when the Masters was on a few weeks ago.

Get well Seve.
Get well.

3. Seve should have won that '86 Masters
He had control of the event before dunking a routine 4 iron second shot on the par 5 15th hole. Nicklaus' heroics would have been a barely remembered sidelight if Seve had played typical golf the final three and a half holes.

As great as Seve was, it's still hard to believe he only won two Masters. The course suited him perfectly.

Anyway, this news was sadly inevitable, based on reports out of Augusta a month ago. A Golf Channel announcer let it slip that, "I'm going to miss him (Seve)." Phil's champions dinner menu was Spanish food in tribute to Seve. You could tell the golf community had reports of declining health.

4. 54 -- pretty young
Only 15 years older, for example, than Angel Cabrera, but they seem several generations apart.

I hope he gets well, but the prognosis doesn't sound good :(
