Vick signs 1-year deal with Eagles
PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Pro Bowl quarterback was designated as the team's franchise player Feb. 15. He signed the franchise tender Wednesday.

Under rules of the collective bargaining agreement that expires at midnight Thursday, a team must pay a franchise player the average of the top five salaries at his position. Vick would make an estimated $20 million under this tag.

Vick led the Eagles to a 10-6 record and the NFC East title after replacing an injured Kevin Kolb in Week 1. Despite missing three games with an injury, Vick had his best season. He set career highs in yards passing (3,018), touchdowns passing (21), touchdowns rushing (9), completion percentage (62.6) and passer rating (100.2).

1. Dog-fighting issues aside,

it's a preemptive roster move in case of the lock-out, and a smart one. If there's an extended lock-out the Eagles will be secure in the QB position with one who knows the playbook when the season resumes. The 49ers, on the other hand, have only one QB under contract, David Carr. They still have to find a starter and whoever that is will have to learn Jim Harbaugh's offense in a short period of time.

2. Would be dumb not to.
As despicable as he is as person, Vick played great last year. Runner up for MVP, Comeback player of the year, best statistical year in his career. They need to shore up the D and they'll be right back in the championship hunt.
