1. nope, if you play ESPN's playoff machine
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 08:24 AM by charlie and algernon
if the niners go 3-1 and the Rams and 'Hawks go 1-3 over the last four games, the niners get in as a 7-9 team.

Niners just need to win out and we can have the first team with a losing record to make the playoffs!

3. Better still,

if the St. Louis-Seattle game ends in a tie (is that you, McNabb?) and they each lose their other two (bearing in mind Seattle has Carolina) while the Niners win out, the Niners win outright. At 7-9. And likely host the world champion Saints.

They've got Atlanta this upcoming week, then Tampa Bay..before St. Louis.

7. They've already played Carolina too..
Rams have the Chiefs and then the 49ers before their final game with Seattle. The point is, both the Seahawks and Rams could easily lose their next two games. It's a longshot, but the 49ers still have an opportunity..

6. Actually either Seattle or St. Louis get in
best case scenario. They are out of it.

8. The 49ers have now played one more game
than both Seattle and St. Louis. So, if both the Rams and Seahawks go 0-2 while the 49ers go 1-0 (that game is against the Rams), the 49ers will enter the final week in control of their own destiny, since they possess the better division record.

9. They looked pathetic last night
I wouldn't be very proud of the fact that a better team is not going to make the playoffs and this terrible team will. They looked anemic the entire game.

10. Who said I was proud?
You asked if the 49ers were still in the playoff hunt, I provided a scenario in which they could still qualify. Whatever team comes out of the NFC West will probably have a poorer record than some team or teams that won't make it. They'll even get a home game. Doesn't seem fair...complain to Roger Goodell.

14. Plus Staley, starting LT, and Heitman, starting center
Heitman may have been the biggest loss of the year
