Surprisingly, Bruce Bochy and Ron Washington are NOT the Managers of the year
Edited on Wed Nov-17-10 02:24 PM by charlie and algernon
Ron Gardenhire, Bud Black honored

NEW YORK -- San Diego's Bud Black has barely beaten out Cincinnati's Dusty Baker as the NL Manager of the Year, while Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire has won the AL award.

Black topped Baker by one point in results released Wednesday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Gardenhire won the award for the first time after finishing second on five occasions.

Congratulations to Gardenhire and Black but :wtf:

1. Pretty obvious that most of the votes for this were sent in
waaaay long time ago. Before the Playoffs.

3. still, Black and the Padres went 14-23 over the last 5 weeks of the season
opening the door wide open for the Giants to take the division

So his votes must've come in mid-August.

2. These awards are voted on at the end of the regular season.
What happens in the playoffs is another matter.

5. if not Bochy, Dusty Baker was absolutely more deserving of the award
The Reds were insanely good this season and they won with a VERY young team.

6. Should have been Dusty
come on he led the Reds to their first Playoff appearance in over 12 years. You know even Bobby cox would have been a better choice

7. Oh yeah, they must have voted in early August when it looked like San Diego
was gonna cream everyone. You're right, Bochy or Baker...this vote makes no sense.

steered the padres to an epic collapse? the padres steered themselves to a ten-game losing streak. before that happened, they absolutey OWNED the world champion giants. moreover, the padres were predicted to battle for last place. bud black absolutely deserves te award.

9. I'm guessing the writers felt that Bud Black did the most with the least.

Considering San Diego had the second lowest payroll in baseball, that argument might have some legs.

As for Baker, he worked with players making twice as much, and Bochy worked with players making almost three times as much, as those Black put on the field.

10. San Diego was a surprise team for me
I don't think many people expected San Diego to be in first place for any amount of time. I don't have issues really.

I'd say Black did all right.

14. The also had one of the longest losing streaks of ANY team in baseball this year
When they needed it the most. How is that doing "alright"? Seriously, that 10 game losing streak at exactly the wrong time is TEXTBOOK bad managing...:wtf:

15. No, it's not.
The season is long, and losing streaks happen for a number of reasons, most of them are not due to the manager.
