Giants go up 1-0 behind Lincecum's 14 strikeouts..
Tim Lincecum pitched a two-hitter and struck out 14 in a dominating postseason debut, and the San Francisco Giants scored their only run after a questionable umpiring call to beat the wild-card Atlanta Braves 1-0 in Game 1 of their NL division series Thursday night.

The Freak really showed up for San Francisco in his biggest start yet, pitching his own gem a day after Philadelphia's Roy Halladay threw only the second no-hitter in postseason history in his debut.

Great pitching performance by Tim..I haven't seen him look much better than that. It only counts as one win though...so all Giants fans will soon be looking forward to game two. Go Giants!!

1. Nice personal achievement, but that's all it is.
Still only counts as one win, and the playoffs are about the team.

4. A great performance by Lincecum!
The run was a little suspect, but the bad call didn't cost Atlanta the game, they had chances to keep the run from scoring and couldn't get it done. Lowe pitched very well too.

5. Yeah that was a bad call..
Posey was obviously out. I noticed it on the first or second replay. It was nice to see the Giants be the beneficiaries of a bad call for a change, but the umpiring should be better than that. I'd be pissed if I was a Braves fan.

6. The "rep" Lowe had in Boston at the end
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 11:55 PM by hughee99
other than the fact that he likes the booze (which made him fit right in) was that he'd pitch well until something didn't go his way (a bad call or fielding error), and then fall apart. I wasn't surprised to see Posey score, but I was surprised to see Lowe settle himself and keep it to one run.

8. He was the same in L.A.
If he gave up two hits in the first inning, he was basically angry and going to lose. Two hits in the first inning = probable loss... One hit and one error = certain loss.

I haven't seen many pitchers who have more trouble keeping their emotions in check.

7. Great job, Timmy!
Man, this guy IS a freak. A testament to his talent would be all the balls he threw way out of the strike zone and still had guys swinging uselessly at it.

Almost Pedro-esque. Great stuff.

11. Nice to see he regained his form
Timmy struggled big time this year. I remember the NATS coming out to SF and roughing him up good.
Should both the Phillies and Giants win their series I would MUCH enjoy a Halladay vs. Lincecum game. Could be epic.

13. Both catchers(Posey and Mccann)
are from Georgia. McCann is from the town next door and we played that town in all-stars every year. matter of f act we played Duluth every fall season in regular play. McCann hit the first homer at our high school field and Franceour once hit 3 HR's in one game.

Georgia has phenomenal baseball. Fourth most major leaguers in the pros after CA, TX and FL and we have about 8.5 million in the state. Georgia is truly professional sports at the 10 year old level.
