The Officials at the US Open are assholes...
...they didn't give Mahut a wild card, making him qualify....again!

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/27/sports/tennis/27mahut.html?_r=2&ref=sports

His back aches, his legs are sore and he requires far more sleep than his schedule permits. But two months after he lost the longest tennis match in history, Nicolas Mahut is being asked to play extra tennis this week.

To get into the main draw of the United States Open, Mahut, ranked 161st in the world, must first win three matches in the qualifying tournament, just as he did in June before losing to John Isner in the first round at Wimbledon.

“Of course, I would prefer to play only in the main draw,” Mahut said. “But they would not give me a wild card, they have so many good players here. So I have to fight my way in again. If my body will let me.”

So far it has. On Thursday, Mahut won his first match of the qualifying tournament, beating Matthew Ebden, 6-3, 6-2. On Friday, without a day to recuperate, he is scheduled to play Uladzimir Ignatik in the second round.

1. He's still worn out after his Wimbledon match 2 months ago?
Man up. You're ranked 161st - what do you expect?

3. Why are they assholes?
Why does he deserve a "wild card?"

4. 2 months to recuperate?
What he did was the equivalent of playing back to back hockey games over the weekend. But in the NHL they usually have to play again by Tuesday. ;)

6. For all of you who don't apparently understand who wild cards work..
...it would simply be good manners for the US Open to give Mahut a wild card...it is totally up to their discretion...the guy is very well known because of Wimbledom and it would just be common courtesy...so there!
