Best college football game ever?
I think it was 1971 OU- Nebraska, Johnny Rogers broke that punt. Hope date is right ,a lot of head injuries since then. Well I looked it up; ..
#1 Nebraska at #2 Oklahoma
1 2 3 4 Total
• #1 Nebraska 7 7 14 7 35
#2 Oklahoma 3 14 7 7 31
Date: 1971-11-25
Location: Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Norman, Oklahoma
Game start: 1:30 pm CST
Game attendance: 61,826
Oklahoma and Nebraska battled back and forth in the Game of the Century in front of a sold-out crowd in Norman and over 55 million viewers on ABC-TV on Thanksgiving Day. Nebraska struck first with a 72-yard Johnny Rodgers punt return, but Oklahoma pulled ahead by 3 by halftime. The Cornhuskers came back strong in the third quarter with two more touchdowns, but the Sooners responded with two of their own to retake the lead with only 7:10 remaining. Down by 3 points, the Huskers went on a final drive and with only 1:38 remaining, Jeff Kinney scored his fourth touchdown of the day for the lead and the win.

1. Gotta be Cal miracle finish in '82 over Stanford
This was unbelievable. Like the announcer said, "It's gonna take a miracle" and Cal got one! Check out John Elway's great drive late to give Stanford a 20-19 lead with 8 seconds left. All for naught.

9. Actually, Neither Of The Owens Brothers Played In That Game
Edited on Sat Jul-24-10 08:05 PM by Liberal_Dog
Steve played at OU from 1967-69, while Tinker played from 1972-75.

Jack Mildren and Greg Pruitt were OU's offensive stars in 1971. They were fantastic against a great Cornhusker defense, but unfortunately...

12. Iowa's a bore. The Great Shootout Game of the Century wasn't.
The Horns came back from 14 to 0 to win 15 to 14.

Where were you? Watching a soccer game?

11. 1984 Orange Bowl
Edited on Sun Jul-25-10 06:10 AM by Va Lefty

Neb 0 14 3 13 30
Miami 17 0 14 0 31

Great back and forth game. Nebraska Coach Osborne passed up a game tying PAT late in the 4th that would have given Nebraska a 12-0-1 record and the national championship to go for a 2 point conversion and the win. Miami's Kenny Calhoun broke up the conversion pass from quarterback Turner Gill to I-back Jeff Smith, leaving the inspired Hurricanes with a 31-30 upset victory over the top-ranked Cornhuskers.

14. Perhaps everyone needs to come into the 21st Century with me for a moment...
...

1) 2002 BCS National Championship Game:
tOSU vs. UM (Fl). How can you dispute double overtime vitory in BCS Championship game as greatest ever? nuff' said.

2) 2007 Fiesta Bowl:
Boise State Vs. Oklahoma. A refresher:

The Broncos completed an unbeaten season with a 43-42 overtime win over the Sooners. The Broncos led most of the game, but fell behind late in the fourth quarter when quarterback Jared Zabransky threw an interception that was returned for an Oklahoma touchdown. They tied the game on a 50-yard hook and ladder play that ended in a touchdown with 7 seconds left. In the overtime, Sooners star running back Adrian Peterson scored a touchdown on the first play of Oklahoma's possession. Zabransky led the Broncos on a touchdown drive, capped off by a trick play in which backup receiver Vinny Peretta connected with tight end Derek Schouman on a fourth-down pass. They then gambled for the win on a two-point conversion, and tried another trick play. The Broncos ran a play very similar to the Statue of Liberty play, with Zabransky looking toward three receivers before handing the ball off behind his back to star running back Ian Johnson, who ran into the end zone untouched for the win. (The play would later be named the 2nd greatest highlight of all time in a 2008 ESPN Sportscenter poll behind Mike Eruzione's goal against the Soviets in the 1980 Miracle on Ice)

3) 2006 tOSU (1) vs. scUM (2).
Game of the Century. A refresher:

On November 18, 2006, Ohio State and Michigan met for their annual showdown, each carrying an 11–0 record. For the first time in the history of the rivalry, the two rivals faced off while holding the top two spots in the Bowl Championship Series rankings...The game was highly touted by ESPN/ABC (there was even a game countdown clock for a week before kickoff) and was viewed by the largest television audience for a regular season college football game since 1993, averaging 21.8 million viewers

18. No, that was a couple of years later
I vividly remember the radio announcer going nuts about it.

This was a game that nobody gave Michigan a snowball's chance of winning. It was Bo Schembechler's first year as coach and reignited the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry in a big way. I remember it so well even though I was only 9.
