3. Those 2 lousy wins came at an awful high price..
Pedroia breaks his foot and now today Victor Martinez breaks his left thumb. If I were a Red Sox fan, I'd rather have stayed injury free and been swept...

4. Thanks! The Rox needed it. We now have Tulo and Hawpe out.
Maybe the Rockies and Bosox should start a MASH unit together.

6. Lester pitched a great game

You'll get no argument from me that with injuries and all the Red Sox are a smart, well-coached, play-off caliber team. Something I didn't know until yesterday is that they lead the majors in number of pitches seen per plate appearance -- an average of something like 4.5 or 4.6. At 27 outs that's making the opposition throw a minimum of 121 pitches per game. Guess when you play the Yankees a lot you create every advantage you can.

On edit: Tim threw about 79 pitches through three innings.

Lincecum never could find his fastball yesterday. J.T. Snow, who was calling radio play-by-play, thought he was having trouble timing his release and settled for throwing it slower until he found the rhythm. That undoubtedly helped the Boston line-up as did the blown strike call on Ortiz that preceded his home run.

One more thing: a quick look of the top ten 2010 MLB payrolls:

New York Yankees 206,738,389
Boston Red Sox 160,913,333
Chicago Cubs 146,609,000
Philadelphia Phillies 142,728,379
New York Mets 136,022,942
Detroit Tigers 122,864,928
Chicago White Sox 105,530,000
Los Angeles Angels 104,161,666
San Francisco Giants 98,586,333

Uh-huh... :eyes:

P.S. Fuck the Red Sox.

10. By that thinking, shouldn't the Cubs be at the top of their division
rather than in 4th place?

11. The real surprise is the San Diego Padres
though I think if you averaged everything out, the highest salaried clubs are atop or in playoff contention in almost all divisions. I just had time to give it a glance (I have more important things to do today, like, earn the mortgage).
