WASHINGTON -- Right-hander Stephen Strasburg had another great outing, but it wasn't enough, as the Nationals were blanked by the Royals, 1-0, in front of 31,913 fans at Nationals Park on Wednesday.
After setting a record with 32 strikeouts in his first three starts, Strasburg broke another one in his fourth. The Nats rookie struck out Royals left fielder Scott Podsednik in the sixth for his ninth strikeout of the day, and 41st of his career, passing Herb Score for the most strikeouts in the first four starts of a career. Score was Rookie of the Year in 1955.Strasburg finished his start having allowed nine hits, one walk and the nine strikeouts over six innings, and left with his Nats trailing thanks to Jose Guillen, who singled in David DeJesus from third with two outs in the fifth inning. Nats right fielder Roger Bernadina made a diving grab for the third out to limit the damage.
In the sixth, Guillen threw out Bernadina on a close play at the plate.
