Notre Dame recruit Dies in Spring Break accident

Offensive lineman Matt James, one of the top prospects in new Notre Dame coach Brain Kelly's first recruiting class, died Friday night in Panama City, Fla., after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony, several media outlets reported.

James, who was won one week shy of his 18th birthday, was vacationing in Florida for spring break.

The 6-foot-6, 291-pound offensive tackle from Cincinnati's St. Xavier High School had chosen Notre Dame over home-state power Ohio State.

1. How awful

I don't think high school kids have any business going on these spring break trips without adult supervision. Kids did it back in my day too and there were incidents like this one too. He might have been huge, but he was still a kid and kids don't have the best judgment. I feel so bad for his family.

2. I know...just a kid, and i agree...God knows the stupid things I did

in college...fortunately I'm still here, you just don't have the best judgement at that age. RIP.

My 'mountaineer' daughter just returned from panama city. She's a college junior, and I wasn't happy that she was going (with 11 friends, drove with 3 cars.)
