Vikings RB Peterson gets 109 mph speeding ticket

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson could lose his driver’s license after police clocked him driving at 109 mph—nearly twice the posted speed limit—on a suburban Minneapolis highway last weekend.

Peterson told The Associated Press on Thursday that he “got a little speeding ticket. I need to be more aware of the speed I was going and not let it happen again.”

Peterson was pulled over just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday while driving his BMW in a 55-mph zone on state Highway 62—a normally busy stretch of road known as the Crosstown that connects Minneapolis with southern and western suburbs, Edina police spokeswoman Molly Anderson said. She said Peterson was given a citation and allowed to drive away after what appeared to be a “very routine” traffic stop.

3. After all, what's the point of buying a sports car if you can't drive 109?

4. At least he didn't fumble a football when the cop stopped him
"Need to be more aware" is pretty funny - if you don't know you're going 2x the speed limit then you probably shouldn't be driving. I'm sure what he really said, before his agent edited it, was something like "fuck yeah! My car is freakin' faaaast. It's so goddam fun to drive that I'm looking to break 120 tonight. Woohoo!!"

6. What is up with Minnesota traffic laws?
Here that would be reckless driving and points and a fine AND a date in traffic court...
It also sounds like he fits right in in Edina...:eyes:

7. Gee, I Wonder If He Will Be Suspended For A Second Ot Two?
His brother was killed by a drunk driver. Not that Peterson was drunk, but this guy knows personally what dangerous driving can do to people (& their families).

8. I absolutely detest speeding (and tailgating)
I think the ramifications should be way more severe. Notice that frequently when someone gets in trouble for worse things, how often they say, "oh, his (or her) only previous offense was a few speeding tickets".

Speeding, especially in certain circumstances, = aggression. I'm not talking about going fast on an otherwise empty highway in the middle of Montana. We're all going to hit 80 or higher there. But people who speed and drive aggressively through cities/neighborhoods/busy areas need to get more than a slap on the wrist.
