Griffey agrees to one-year deal with Mariners
SEATTLE (AP) -- Ken Griffey Jr. and the Mariners agreed Wednesday to another one-year contract that will keep the popular slugger in Seattle next year.

Baseball's active home run leader, who turns 40 on Nov. 21, will basically get the same, incentive-laden deal with $2 million in base salary he signed to return to Seattle for the 2009 season. (Griffey made $1.15 million in incentives last season.)

"The framework of this year's contract is similar to last year's," Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, said by telephone from Cincinnati.

It is believed Griffey will get a slightly higher base salary, with fewer incentives based upon plate appearances and Mariners home attendance.

He is likely to again be a part-time designated hitter in his 22nd season in the major leagues since he broke in as a grinning Mariners teenager.

2. This is stupid
Griffey hit .214 last year, yet the Mariners continued to bat him in the cleanup spot just to keep his many Puget Sound worshipers happy. It's time the Mariners let go of the past and looked towards the future.

12. That player is walking off after a playoff game, something the Giants missed out on.
Again.

8. There will never be an asterisk next to Griffey's 600-plus home runs, or his
induction into the HoF.

10. You said the same crap about A-Roid too
before the revelations about his steroid use surfaced. Point being, you can't be sure of any these guys that played during the steroid era, including Griffey.

15. I think they should have a class of the Roiders.
You could have bonds, clemons, sosa, and mcgwire and give them their own separate room in the hall. The Roid Room.

BTW, it would crack me up if $elig would allow Pete Rose in before the Roid Class.
