A.P., 11-10-09 / NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter sure is stuffing his trophy case this year.

The steady Yankees shortstop won his fourth Gold Glove on Tuesday, joining New York first baseman Mark Teixeira among the American League players rewarded for fantastic fielding.

"I've always taken a great deal of pride in my defense, and being honored with a Gold Glove is an accomplishment I will never overlook," Jeter said in a statement.

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Torii Hunter and Seattle right fielder Ichiro Suzuki both won for the ninth straight season. First-time winners included Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria, Baltimore outfielder Adam Jones and Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle.

1. Congratulations to Jeter on his second undeserved trophy of the season...
No, I'm not talking about the WS, he won that fair and square.

In all fairness he was closer to deserving the gold glove than he was to deserving the Hank Aaron award, though he wasn't truly deserving of either.

2. agree about the Howard award
but he was deserving of his gold glove this year. He played excellent defense. Best of his career.

I will note I didn't hear the outcry when Morneau was handed an mvp award he shouldn't have won over Jeter a few years back.

4. His defense was the best of his career, and he did have a good season with the glove
but he's not the best defensive shortstop. I think Aybar and Andrus were both more deserving, but you can certainly make an argument for Jeter.

I still haven't figured out how anyone could look at Jeter's numbers vs. Mauer's numbers and give Jeter the award.

After the Aaron award, the silver slugger, and the gold glove, I think he's set up for an MVP this year.

5. I'd vote
for Mauer and I'm a Yankees fan. Mauer was far and away the MVP.
