Limbaugh already down one vote
Source: ESPN

BOSTON -- Rush Limbaugh's bid to buy the St. Louis Rams ran into opposition within the NFL on Tuesday. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay vowed to vote against him and commissioner Roger Goodell said the conservative commentator's "divisive" comments would not be tolerated from any NFL insider.

"I, myself, couldn't even consider voting for him," Irsay said at the owners meetings. "When there are comments that have been made that are inappropriate, incendiary and insensitive ... our words do damage, and it's something that we don't need."

Limbaugh has long been a hero of conservatives and villain to the left, thriving on his place in the political spectrum while establishing himself as one of the most successful broadcasters in history. But the NFL tries to avoid controversy, as Limbaugh learned in 2003 when he was forced to resign from ESPN after saying of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."

"Divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about," Goodell said. "I would not want to see those kind of comments from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL."

The NFL doesn't want an owner that 1/3 of the country hates.

20. Hmm...
I doubt that. Jerry is pretty vile. Especially for what he did to Tom Landry.

But you are correct
To link Jones as being Limbaugh-esque is idiotic

He can buy the Rams if he quits his radio show so his views are no longer an issue.

5. If the NFL keeps him out, maybe the right will turn on the NFL!
Imagine RW Xians boycotting NFL games!

And just think, in Texas, where football is a religion, the RW Xians would then be denounced as heretics.

7. Huzzah for Irsay!
Even though Jimmy Irsay has raped and pillaged the taxpayers of Indy for his new Taj Mahal stadium, I will still tip my hat to his public statements about Limbaugh.

Jimmy is a hippie at heart I think. He owns many significant rock and roll guitars and Kerouac's hand written manuscripts.

35. Robert Irsay was, indeed, gutter slime.
People's Exhibit A: The new ESPN doco "The Band That Wouldn't Die", by Bawlmer's own Barry Levinson. Irsay pere and pressers just didn't seem to mix well: first he yelled at Baltimoreans that "it's not 'our' team, it's MY team! I worked hard for it!" Then, caught red-handed shopping HIS team around to the highest bidder, he went in front of the mikes, drunk as a skunk, and slurred, "I'm not moving the g*dd*mn team! Who told you I was moving the g*dd*mn team?" Finally, as you know, he had the moving vans pull up in the dead of night, not even bothering to inform then-Mayor Schaefer (later Governor of Md.) as he had repeatedly promised to do. A true prince among men. :sarcasm:

It seems like Jim Irsay must have been left on Robert's doorstep in a basket. Then again, Ron Reagan turned out all right, too...

26. And the Falcons...
Edited on Wed Oct-14-09 08:14 AM by rpannier
From the article

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank echoed Goodell's comments and noted that the league and the union had a similar stance. Blank also said he wouldn't expect Limbaugh, if the deal went through, to tone down his lucrative radio show to avoid running afoul of the league.

"I find that highly unlikely," he said.

************************************************

That's a pretty strong hint he's not voting for the group

This also doesn't seem to bode well for the investment group

************************************************

Patriots owner Robert Kraft referred questions about Limbaugh to the commissioner. Texans owner Bob McNair said anyone who meets the "normal criteria" is a candidate to own a team.

"But our vetting process is very thorough," he said.

*********************************************

-- McNair uses the term "normal criteria" then throws in the "...vetting process is very thorough."

Like... Oh... I don't know... He was doctor shopping for illegal prescription medication and had he not been Limbaugh he'd have been in jail.

on edit:
A friend of mine who lives near Oakland told me Al Davis has hinted he would vote against the Limbaugh group

That makes about 6 probable no votes right there

30. Wow.
If even a looney-tune like Al Davis won't vote for him, Rush's bid is likely down the toilet, where it belongs.

Poor Rush...denied his dream of part ownership of an NFL team...karma's a bitch.

31. Al Davis hired the first latino head coach in NFL history
As well as the second African-American coach in league history and he also hired a woman as President of the Club which is higher then any owner placed a woman.

Given his track record of equality it doesn't surprise me he would be against the ownership of a racist fool.

36. Solid points which is what makes it sad
He has become such a bad owner.

He used to be one of the better owners and he's always been at the front of promoting equality within the NFL.
It really is unfortunate

18. I've e-mailed the NFL and Roger S. Goodell with quotes about some of Limpballs
more incendiary comments such as his James Earl Ray deserving the Medal of Honor for killing MLK, among others. And we all should, too. With all the African-American players in the NFL, he doesn't need to enrich himself from the labors of a group that he's shown so much hatred for.
