1. And Everton fans probably wish it wasn't.......
Thank goodness they had Lescott playing in the heart of their defence, otherwise the result could have been (ahem) embarrassing for them.

As it was....just the 6 goals then.

2. Ah, no...
it was a disastrous start but there's no way a football fan could wish it hadn't finally started, I don't believe that at all.

I can still hardly believe that result, after all the negative talk.

3. We'll see what happens today with Celtic
this kind of tie is fraught with pitfalls. You know when I saw Celtic was one of the Gunners possible opponents I just knew they were going to draw them.

Lets hope they're nothing worse than even going back to the Emirates for the second leg.

4. Yes... this'll be interesting. I wish I could watch it live.
Not sure what your last sentence means there... but I'm glad the first tie is in Glasgow.

6. Two away goals..
a fortuitous deflection off Gallas to be sure, and then there was the OG...but the match was a comfortable one for Arsenal, the difference in the quality of the respective sides was obvious.

Next Wednesday is but a formality...it's on to the group stage.

7. Yeah, we relied on luck today...
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 05:04 PM by redqueen
but we had their keeper busy, or so it seemed from the text updates on the BBC website.

And I dunno about you but I'm not gonna get cocky about next Wednesday. Not after last season's massive turnaround losses. If we can stay in good form for this entire season I might consider being slightly cocky next season though.

11. What...
just cause you throw the first punch doesn't mean you started it, right?

14. Could be worse, it could be Norwich City we are talking about
And to think they nicked Paul Lambert off the U's after this!

16. Which "poor guys"?
Norwich for getting thrashed 7-1 at home or Col U for having their manager nicked by Norwich afterwards?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/8204016.stm

Norwich and Col U traditionally get on quite well with each other, united as they are by a mutual loathing of Ipswich Town. However, I can't see that carrying on this season!

17. Norwich...
and yeah, safe to say that relationship might be just slightly strained this season. :)
