1. That's my church!
Proud to be a Congregationalist/UCC member!

2. OOoh, dumb old heathen me.
I had no idea they were affiliated with the Congregationalists. That was my ex's family's church, although my ex was a skeptic like me.

No wonder they were all so sane. They're second on my list of moderate mainstream churches, right after UU. Episcopalians are third.

Individual congregations may be weird, of course, but generally speaking, it's hard to find wingnuts in any of them.

3. Congregationalism allows for a lot of "local control"
No bishops or other authorities to answer to. When it comes to important matters in a Congregational church, every member gets a vote -- no elders or deacons deciding what's best for the group. Very "democratic" way of running a church (IMHO).

5. Saw their ad several weeks ago. Sent them a few bucks
I am an Athiest, but, if more Christians were like this, I might change my mind. No, not really but at least I could support them. Jesus, after all, did have a decidedly Socialist message. Unfortunatly, that message was co-opted by the Catholic curch and has degenerated to wack jobs like Fallwell and Dobson spreading a message that has nothing to do with the teachings of Christ. I'll stick to Buddha for the time being thank you.

6. I went to a lecture...
...by Dr. Michael Shermer, who started the Skeptics Society. Someone asked him why religion has taken such a hold on America, but not in similarly idustrialized, educated countries, like western Europe. His reply, "Marketing."

7. I wish there were more of these types of churches instead
the dreadful Fascist-type. This type of Christian attitude would be much more tolerable to Atheists like myself. In fact, many other religions would be willing to possibly share their insight.
