anyone ever have *doomsday dreams?*
my husband and i always talk about what we dream and lately we've both been having these "doomsday dreams."

it's not like destruction is all around us. rather, in both of our dreams, we are living in a re-built 'society' and are doing mundane stuff that is representative for "what we do *now*." as if we've been at this for a while.

in my husband's dream he is working in a manufacturing situation out in the west somewhere. it's like Tombstone except with trees. maybe Reno.

in my dreams i'm having to deliver something somewhere. Very 'Crying of Lot 49.' i'm usually shuttling between a marina and and a gentrified, old downtown area. very Tampa.

it's real important in both our doomsday worlds that we stay within our network.

doomsday scenarios are fairly common in dreams, but i think it's fascinatig anyway. i'm sure is probably our unconscious processing economic uncertainty into psychic imagery, but still it's fun *and* in all the years we've been telling each other our dreams, we've never dreamed things so similar.

here's the creepiest part of my dreams -- birds, bird poop and bird flu and/or ebola keep coming up. wtf? hubby hasn't dreamed of the flu yet, so we're prolly okay ;)

I was having these types of dreams since I was a toddler -- when I was a tot, I'd have dreams of seeing a huge flying rock coming out of the sky to smash me.

I also had dreams of everything in the world being on fire - even the world itself.

There were also dreams where the world was dark, and had been taken over by these intelligent, but entirely unfathomable, beings.

Then, there were the "Empty World" dreams, where there were very few people around, and I was an orphan.

And sadness. A lot of sadness.

I don't think they were prophetic dreams so much as reflections of my particular neuroses. But painful times do make for painful dreams.

4. wow -- fire is heavy. i never dream about fire. usually water. big ocean.
when i was in college me and a friend compared dreams and found that we had both been dreaming about the chinese and some war situation involving maps -- like we saw tv screens with troop movements on them. this would have been 1987 -- i don't recoall being too aware of china at the time. and she was as non-political as you could get.

in my dream there were chinese and korean (wtf, who knows) armies in the northwest and there ws some cut-off assault from the gulf of mexico, around new orleans.

humans walking down our street totally filling the street. I remember in the dream we were all terrified and were trying to hide in basements or cellars. The fear was unbelievable. It was much more than a child being afraid of toy soldiers. There was something much more sinister in the air.

Then the other day, someone here on the DU posted a pic of * and Laura standing next to a one appeared to be a cardboard cut out of one of these exact tin soldiers.

Oh, btw, I had this dream over and over again as a child and early adult. Same marching down the street and the same fear. I never had any idea of what it might mean until the last four years.

I had also dreamed that my parents and older brother would tie me to a chair on the front porch and leave me. I was only six. My brother died in '68, my father in '72 and my mother in '95. Sure, it could all be coincidence. Just silly dreams.

But then again, who knows? Personally, I believe in the power of dreams occasionally. Not all dreams mean anything at all. But I think there are a few that are truly precognitive.

7. right after my grandfather died a few years ago
i had a dream that i was in some cosmic library. and the cosmic reference librarians were ancient, like old as time. and they were pissed i had been let in there. there was a big map desk and lots of charts were out. they said i was to meet someone.

just then one of the bookcases swung open and there was my grandfather standing in a sunny meadow. he was 94 when he died and in pretty dim physical health. he hoisted me up in the air like a kid and gestured over to a happy-looking playground and obstacle course where all these senior citizens were performing amazing feats of strength and agility. he said something to the effect of "i just want you to know, there's nothing to be afraid of."

i was never very close to my grandfather. we talked about the braves and that's about all. and oddly, i never had a fear of death -- but he sure had one! grandmother said that's how he lived so long. he was afriad to die. or was it he was too mean? ;)

9. OH that is a strange premonition
how sad that your family died so young. you seemed to be very aware as a child.

i was that way. for awhile i was very into reincarnation and would say you could have been remembering a past life experience and as history repeats itself (and we have Hitler 2) you are seeing it happen again. Of course it all depends on your age and when these dreams occurred and what was going on at the time in history. tin soldiers and Nixon calling. was that the time? perhaps this was earlier. since your dad and brother died earlier. so yes you are a child of the 60's like me. you felt the tension of the time.

i cried in kindergarten class all the time. just cried. i worried about the world. i was a nutty kid.

i think you are like me a sensitive old soul who knows what is happening around her and your sub conscience saw the road ahead. no coincidence - everything happens for a reason. JMO.

12. I was a child of the '50's. I started having this dream in about '55.
Thanks for the comment about losing people so young. I was 17 when I lost my brother, 20 when I lost my father, and I lost my Mum in 1995 after taking care of her for 10 years. My pleasure. She was my best friend. I'm at an age where I've lost a lot of people. Not terribly unusual, but I have lost so many friends and just recently the last cousin I was close to. Just how it happens sometimes.

The only thing that I can say might have had an influence on the dream was that old Laurel and Hardy movie. I can't remember the name of it, but it was a classic. But, I swear, this did not feel the same and it was so terrifying. Funny, I recently had a man tell me that I was an old soul. I had been telling him about dreams I've had about being entirely different people, doing things I would never have thought of in this life. And honestly, my dreams rarely come up in conversation.

Oh, and I didn't catch the name, but I love the dream the poster had about his grandfather meeting him in an cosmic library and showing him how strong and healthy everyone was. That's a very nice dream.

When a very close friend of mine's father passed away, I ran his business while he was doing the funeral arrangements. A few days later I had this dream of an open grave and the perspective of looking out of it. I could see this beautiful garden and the most intensly green trees surrounding the area and I felt so peaceful. The last time I had seen his father he was staring at a rainbow and commenting on it's beauty. He was a very good soul. I wasn't sure I should tell my friend about the dream because we were the type of people that just didn't discuss that type of stuff. But, I told him anyway and he smiled. He might have thought I was nuts. Hey, the dream made me feel better.

I also think dreams do tell you important information from the future and the past, but that if varies from person to person and that most people don't pay much attention or either forget their dreams upon wakening. I will literally be worn out after waking at times because my dreams have been so vivid and real that it's as if I've been awake in some other world all night and then I have to wake up and face this one. :)

3. The strange thing is you are BOTH
having the same dreams, i was going to say the strange thing is that you and your husband actually talk. lol

no really that you both have the same dreams might be very significant to what is going on in your personal life right now.

i have dreams that are prophetic example i dream of a plan going out of control and i am on it but i dont die and when i wake up and turn on the TV there is a plan crash in queens.

or once i dreamed my house was flooded it was a mess and i woke up feeling very upset and wondering what and when it would happen. later that day my friend called and said her toilet backed up while she was away and he entire house was flooded. to scary.

this happens to me all the time. i should write my dreams down but i am lazy.

there was a time i was afraid to sleep because my dreams where so bad this was before 9/11. i would just stay up.

now here are some web pages - check out the meanings of the key words in your dreams, like bird, doomsday or whatever you can relate to. start with that. and see what you can relate to.

you may both be worried about the world and its effect on you personally. these dreams are trying to tell you something.

5. wow! thanks for the links! i've had pre-cognitive dreams, but only
mundane stuff like one time i was sleep-talking saying "no way, dude, flat-tops are "out." in my dream these two brothers i knew got flat-top hair cuts. the next time i saw them, they had flat top hair cuts.

when i was little i used to dream which episode of Gilligan's Island would be on.

6. oh crap -- i take that back... i HAVE had a significant pre-cog dream
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 04:33 AM by nashville_brook
this was 2 years ago on thanksgiving. i was a 5 hour drive from home and we had left our dogs with a pet-sitter for the first time ever. i have two italian greyhounds. at 5am sunday morning i wake having a dream that i met a my best friend in a kitchen in *space* and she pulled two glowing rods out of a refrigerator behind her. she says that b/c i've been a bad parent, she had to take one of the rods away. i said, "cindy, you nut, i don't have any children." just then a "wormhole" opens, rainbow-colored light pours out and i can see the black sillouettes of people and animals (birds, even).

i wake in a panic and me and my husband pack and hit the road. we were visiting his parents for thanksgiving. an hour into the dirve the pet sitter calls. the gate had "flown open" and Mr Chompers was gone.

chompy was blind in one eye and couldn't see out the other. he was dumb as the day is long -- exactly the kind of feller you completly fall in love with.

well, he was found saturday night around midnight in front of a church up the street. he was cold and a little scraped up. an off-duty EMT guy saw him and "knew" he was a pet. so this guy takes mr chompers to the ER and stays with him -- holding him -- until he passed (he pretty much had a heart attack). around 4 am central time. the same time i awoke having that dream.

i walked around the neighborhood for 36 hours yelling "Mr Chompeeeeeerssss" "CHOM-PPEEEE" -- before i hooked up with the right people who knew what had happened. my neighborhood thinks i'm a nut. story is even weirder. when the EMT guy called me on my cell phone io was standing in the parking lot of the church where he found him. oh, it was sad! my other dog was heartbroken -- mr chompers was her brother. her name's Astra. I think she pushed him out the door.

the story has a somewhat happy ending, tho. i faxed and put up hundreds of posters and someone saw the pic and called me with an Italian Greyhound they were trying to place in a home. His name is Trouble and he's been here ever since.

(and no, the little buggers didn't have tags. they were to never leave the yard. they have tags now.)

8. wow, see you are a mother!
and now you are a good mom, got them tags. that was some scary stuff.

i hate when my daughter dreams she is like me too. we both scare the hell out of each other.

i used to dream a lot about the house i grew up in. my mom and my sisters would be sitting in the kitchen. that just means you have baggage you need to face. haven't had one of them in long time. thank goodness cause they would be the recurring type. so until you figure out why you are having that dream they will continue.

then i went into having dreams about this apartment. i would dream i had many more rooms then i have. i would wake up and look for these rooms! lol, i swear it was so real. this is supposed to mean there are parts of your self you are not facing. parts of you that you do not know. like hidden rooms. i analyze everything. cant help it its part of my personality. so in other words i needed to explore my inner self. fine wtf? ok, i had that dream so many times. made me crazy.

i started to make jell candles. and started doing crafts. the dreams stopped and i got very involved in politics. so hey maybe its the politics thing i was supposed to explore because the dreams stopped when this election stuff started!

13. The stars fell out of the sky and the universe was ending, but my
parents wouldn't let me call my bf (in the dream) because his family is made up of devout fundagelicals and they wouldn't have believed me so would have been mad?

That was a freaky one, but it came when I was clinically depressed.

The "voice" that told me in 2000 that if Bush entered the White House we would have the worst war we have ever known freaks me out more since I was wide awake when that happened.

14. holy crap! that's wild about the voice --
during the 2000 mess, when it was all over i had the most palpable feeling that *evil* had won. i probably wouldn't even recall the feeling, but i thought it was overwrought at the time, and was a little embarrassed by it.

16. I've been having some vivid dreams lately
The most unnerving one was of sitting in someone's back yard and seeing a low-flying plane suddenly go nose downward and crash into an area a few buildings away. Only instead of exploding or shattering, it bounced up once and turned 180 degrees. Bizarre.

I live under a flight path, so low-flying planes are nothing unusual in this neighborhood.

17. 1984-like dream
I had a dream the other night that I was living in this crummy little apartment. I had an old TV in the living room, and you couldn't shut it off or change the volume. It was stuck on a Christian TV channel that was run by the government, and everybody was forced to have it piped into their house 24-7.
