Anglo-Catholics check in
We seem to be a dying breed.

Our parish has been looking for a priest for ages.

2. I'm writing my dissertation on the Oxford Movement and Anglo-
Catholicism in Victorian England.

3. I'm Anglo-Catholic, my priest is Anglo-Catholic, but my...
...small-town congregation tends toward the evangelical or liberal. For example, we can't have incense even at special services because we have a "scent-sensitive" support group. No scent-sensitive people, mind you, just those that think on the odd chance someone might show up who's scent-sensitive, we shouldn't have scents. In their favor, coffee hour has improved mightily since they insisted on "fair trade" coffee in the pot.

The evangelicals, on the other hand, want to have "praise and worship" music at every service. Our priest gives them one Sunday every six weeks and guitar-based "praise-allejuah" music each week while communion is being served. They're sort of "half-charismatic", too, since they raise their hands about shoulder height during the Sanctus/Benedictus. They gasped audibly when our new deacon kissed the Gospel book before reading. Fortunately, they don't even recognize most of the "popery" going on around them, since a historic view of Christianity is not their strong suit.

It's the only Episcopal church in town and I love it. But sometimes I sneak off to a local Orthodox church and worship there, just for the grandeur of it all.

6. You'd fit right in here
We've got "smells and bells" so bad we get complaints from the neighbours. They've never gone so far as to call the fire department but they must be tempted.

4. Another Episcopalian here --
RC by birth, Episcopalian now. Lots of universalist leanings... so I get to continue to be something of the heretic around my parish. Which is becoming a comfortable place to be for me!

5. Dear ACs, please consider joining the

Catholic/Orthodox group we're starting, if you haven't visited those threads already.

The more charismatic Protestant-leaning Episcopalians described by Pelagius might not fit in but those who consider themselves Anglo-Catholics should.

"Come, we party with alcohol, dance, play cards, leave our benighted fellow Christians of Calvinist bent to make do with fruit punch and Charades in the church social hall."

 (with apologies to ophimoimoi)

7. I attended an Anglo-Catholic parish in New Haven for part of the
time I was in grad school. But I don't consider myself a hardcore Anglo-Catholic. I'm sort of medium high.
