my theory is the basic atheist is okeydokey and the Ayn Randians are like the Phelps church is to christianity.

am I right or wrong on that?

1. I tell you what..
.. I could never even get started on Ayn Rand.
I found her ideas and her work so offputting.

Then I few years ago I discovered that the
people who like her work are neocons or
crazed sociopathic capitalists and rugged
individualists.

Ick...

5. I thought Rand was GREAT!
Back in 1958 when I read Atlas Shrugged practically in one sitting. Of course I was 14 years old, impressionable and pretty darn stupid back in those days.

Today she just strikes me as some kind of raving lunatic whose ideas are completely out of touch with reality.

FWIW: I am a non-believing Yoga-Buddhist-atheist. (i.e., I practice yoga to keep my 64 year old body flexible, and Buddhist meditation to help me relax and keep my blood pressure down.)

9. It's an odd Randian
that wants to use the power of the state to "protect" kids. Randroids believe even child labor laws are an unnecessary intrusion into private business affairs.

10. I wasn't aware of Deists or Deism as having recently aroused notable opposition.

Could I interpret the word "antideists" in your thread title as meaning "antitheists" without distorting your idea?

Here's a link to a short discussion of Deism.

11. sure, that will work.
and the recent thread I was referring to (linked in another post above) was thread suggesting we should ban all religious education until the age of 21.
Me personally, I think all diverse thought should be encouraged, religious or non religous. The best thing is to educate children on ALL points of view and allow them to come to a personal decision.
Even though I'm a christian, I spend time explaining other religions and encouraging my son to explore them. I only point out that my choice is a decision that I came to, not one that he has to adhere to.

unfortunately, in that other thread, an atheist (although it was more an antitheist point of view) believed in using the state in a fascist way to prevent ANY religion being offered as a choice until the age of 21. I presume until then, atheism would be the state's approved mode. (or antitheism).

Interestingly, the presumed reason was because religion was too restrictive. LOL.

12. Good morning oh lovely supporter of that great sky monster.
I guess that you were still unable to work out that I had been using the language the Church has used to remove my rights against them. Religion still continues to mitigate against my rights, it still continues to occupy a position of excessive power in far too many Countries, yet few challenge why.

Never the less worshipping some sky monster has obviously given you powers to read my mind and to attribute Rand style motives to my views. I am most impressed.

You will note that I did not say we should ban religious education, even though we do not study why people think fairies, unicorns, the easter rabbit or Santa exist. Religious confirmation practices should have a minimum age of consent.

Big $$$s are spent preparing a child for "confirmation", bar mitzvah, etc etc. Confirmation that as an adolescent that child will continue the religion. Now after the family have spent as much on that ceremony as they do for a wedding, imagine being the child that says no. These ceremonies are a form of child abuse. If it is only ceremonial why do it?

14. sorry for bad phrasing, there. what I meant was
most atheists are okeydokey people, as in okeydokey with me and me with them, but that the Randians are a little extreme.
