Four People have been charged after a Manchester rabbi was allegedly attacked and robbed at home last week.
The rabbi, aged 64, who asked to remain anonymous, was at his Prestwich home on February 11 with his wife, when robbers armed with baseball bats burst in, and demanded his car keys. They punched him several times, ransacked his house, taking jewellery and a mobile phone, and then left in his car. It is believed the car was then used in another robbery.
The rabbi, badly bruised in the attack, said: “I feel much better now but I want to warn other people to be very careful about security and make sure their front door can’t be broken down.”
A local woman later retrieved the rabbi’s books and religious items which were thrown from the car. Helen Adelman, who lives in Cheetham Hill, was visiting her father Sammy Adelman, on Thursday evening, at his flat in Blackley. She said: “I drove to the car park, opened the car door and saw Hebrew books, tefillin, a pair of glasses, a travelling bag and some papers, all strewn over the ground. I was shocked. I called my dad and we took the things inside and phoned Rabbi
Saunders, who told us what had happened .”
l Anthony Twigg, 22, of Calton Avenue, Salford; Jonathan Dougan, 20, of Mansfield Road, Blackley; Mark Hargreaves, 30, of Ilminster Walk, Blackley; and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on February 14.
