have you checked out Library Thing? -- it's a great way to keep track of your books and sort things. there is a community aspect to it to if someone is interested.

but I have thousands of books, too, and Library Thing is great b/c it is a very inexpensive way to have a book db that is online, plus you can download info as an excel sheet.
