The Colour of Magic on ION
IIRC, this is the same network that aired Hogfather back around Hogswatchnight, though I can't say that I've ever watched even a single minute of the channel outside of these two programs. Colour is four hours and adapts the first two novels of the Discworld series.

I have to say that I'm very impressed. It greatly surpasses any of the made-for-tv fantasy films that NBC ran a few years ago, and the production quality is surprisingly good. Sean Astin is excellent as Twoflower.

One minor quibble is that I've always envisioned Rincewind to be much younger than he's portrayed here.

1. A Wizard of Earthsea
Would SOMEBODY please do a good quality production of ursula le guin's classic?

it took many years to finally get LOTR done, how about giving le guin some props.

it would make a great frigging movie.

unfortunately, it might LOOK like a ripoff of Harry Potter (but of course Wizard of Earthsea came DECADES earlier).

iirc it was scifi channel that did a (very poor) made for teevee version of wizard of earthsea starring that girl from smallville, but it was weak and low budget

wizard of earthsea deserves the epic treatment

2. Agreed
There's also an anime version that I hear is pretty fantastic though I haven't seen it myself.

5. Just don't let an American production company anywhere near it
Guaranteed to fuck it up 100% before the first commercial break.

3. I'm a fan of anything by Terry Pratchett, and a friend gave me a DVD of Hogfather for Christmas 2008
I never knew it existed until then, and loved it so much I watched it several times and shared it with friends before putting it away. Next Hogswatchnight I shall watch it again, and a friend has promised to bring a Peppermint Pig.

Thanks for alerting me to the existence of Colour of Magic -- I don't get ION, so will have to keep my eyes open for the someday DVD.

Hekate

4. I should have mentioned that The Colour of Magic was dated 2008
It shouldn't be too hard to come by.
