Final Potter film split in half
Final Potter film split in half

The seventh and final Harry Potter book will be adapted for the big screen in two parts, Warner Bros has confirmed.

The announcement comes after producer David Heyman admitted it was impossible to cram Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows' 608 pages into a single movie.

"You cannot remove elements of this book," he told the Los Angeles Times.

1. As a Harry Potter fan, I'm excited by the prospect of another movie.
But I suspect the motivation for this may be financial rather than creative.

2. My thoughts exactly
But at least they are able to come up with a logical rationale beyond just "the gravy train is coming into the last station but we are still hungry."

Now, if only they had done this with The Goblet of Fire....

3. Financial....probably
but I for one will enjoy an HP movie that doesn't seem rushed. Maybe "the rushed" feeling I get is true of any movie adaptation of a book although I didn't feel that so much with LOTR. All of the HP movies so far have seemed clipped to me. But given my love for the books I could just want them to last, with all of her detail as long as possible.

If they are serious about really showing the final complexity and twist regarding Snape,Dumbledore etc I can see where that could take some time.

5. I wonder how they are going to handle the *real* end of the book
Especially that couple of decade jump, giving the futures of all the characters. Reviewers will smack that down, just as they did the seemingly multiple endings of LOTR.

10. Actually, I don't see that as being a big problem with HP

Didn't the epilogue consist strictly of Harry and his wife carting their kids off to the train station where they ran into Ron and Hermione with some brief references to other characters?

Seems like you can easily wrap it up in a few minutes of screen time.

I'm sure people would like to actually see their characters have a physical final curtin call but since it didn't take place in the book I not sure people will be upset if it's not in the movie.

6. you're probably right, but...
..this is a good idea, because that book is way too big to be squeezed into 2 hours...so let them make the money, in hopes that they will do the story justice

7. that should be true of all books.
books should be made into miniseries rather than movies. I honestly think that a short story is better made into a movie than a whole book.
