Reading A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) Books Differently
I'm listening to the audiobooks, and I've got them broken down by chapter, so I've begun to listen to them according to the POV. Has anyone done this, and how do you think it compares to just reading straight through?

Right now I'm in ACOK and am listening to Tyrion's POV. I figure after I do this for all of them, I'll go back and listen to all of them in order.

I started doing this because I would get engrossed in one POV and then found it distracting to suddenly have to switch.

2. I've done that for a few characters
Especially for the latter books, I like doing that. I think it makes it easier to see some of the details.

3. It works especially well with Daenerys
At least for now; no idea where her story goes after book 2.

8. I try to keep up
but you guys are going too fast for me. Is this like Kabala or the Rosicruceans with a soundtrack? How about a gloss for those of us less attuned to the zeitgeist. I did read the first couple books and didn't like 'em. They felt like the guy was getting paid by the word.

9. The first time I read the first book I thought it was okay
The second time I read it I liked it a lot more.

His writing style can be a little baroque. :P

5. Interesting approach
Getting it organized on audiobooks must be challenging. I am currently working my way through the first four books in anticipation of ADWD (a 1/3 of the way through a A Storm of Swords). This is my third time listening to them (I have only read parts of them when I had a question about something). Roy Dotrice is a king, and I wish they would rerecord A Feast for Crows with him doing the narration.

As a side issue did anyone see Episode 9 of A Game of Thrones? I am not at all happy in how Tyrion was handled in the battle. I am not sure later events are going to make sense from taking this opportunity for comic relief.

6. It was challenging but worth the effort.
Dotrice added just enough of a pause between chapters that I was able to automatically detect (most) of the chapter divisions using audio editing software. I then named each chapter using the corresponding page numbers in the books I have, along with the chapter title (eg, AGOT_086_Tyrion.mp3). Yep, lots of work but has paid off well, since I'm listening so many times and so many ways. You'd think I was studying for a degree or something, lol. And I still miss so many details every time I listen. I also have to go to the books sometimes for reference (thus the page numbers).

Agree about the battle scenes in Ep9. They used too much time instead on the drinking game, imho. But what do you mean about later events not making sense?

7. Tyrion's performance outside the walls of King's Landing
I hope they do not make that comic relief as well.

The books are rich and a real delight to me. I am not normally interested in fantasy, but Martin really pulls you in. His world is gritty, dirty, and lacking in Conan style heroes - all for the better. The "good" guy is not always the best swordsman, and what is really a "good" guy.
