IS IT TIME TO MOVE ON?
There is no real chance at over turning this years election results. They are going to be certified in days.

I think we need to look more to the future and stopping this from happening again and raising public awareness.

But that is just my opinion.

5. Looking to the future depends on how we react now.
We need to fix what's broken before we can move ahead. This past election proved that. Massive voter fraud and voter suppression cannot be ignored.

I was going to keep fighting, but you just convinced me that it is worthless wasted effort. We might as well just resign to our failure, join the enemy and accept his values.

Do I have that right?

Though the chances might be slim, I will continue to stand and fight this heinous election for as long as it takes. Yes, my hopes are fading but I'm not going to take the easy path, your path and admit defeat when we have not yet TRULY begun to fight!

LET'S ALL COLLECTIVELY IGNORE THIS THREAD FOR THE TIME BEING, BECAUSE WE'VE COME TOO FAR AND WORKED TOO HARD TO GIVE UP NOW. LET'S REFUSE TO RESIGN OURSELVES TO THE VALLEY OF DEFEAT WHEN SO MUCH IS HAPPENING. I CALL ON EVERYONE TO STAND AND FIGHT!

26. Count me in. If the shrub is sworn in again next Jan. 20th, I will deal
with it. Until then I do not accept the "results" of this election, and I will offer only praise, support and help to others who do not accept this election as legitimate. It's important to fight, even when you lose; it is particularly important to fight when you win, and I have no doubt that Kerry won the election. As tough as it looks, I'm not nearly ready to give up. Some of us never even left our stations.

It's nice to see that you've got the backbone to fight on even when the odds are not in our favor. That, my friend, is highly commendable and I'm happy to have progressive liberals like you at my side. Hot damn, it is one helluva honor to fight the machine with people like you!

40. Anyone can fight when they are ahead, that's the easy part.
We are dealing with opponents who are politically ruthless and we must be equally ruthless. These nice folks pushed forward with the impeachment of WJC even when they knew that it would not succeed; they couldn't remove him from office but they did damage him. My first choice, of course, is to see Kerry sworn in as our 44th president. If that can't be done, I want to expose the corrupt underbelly of an election process that made a semi literate moron the nominal leader of the free world and to so thoroughly discredit shrub and shrubco that he becomes as afraid to show his face in this country as he is in other countries. As I watched the returns come in on 11/2, I had a pretty good idea how shrub managed to end up with more votes. That this theft has, so far, been successful is no reason for me to pick up my marbles and go home. The game is still afoot. Sometimes the race goes not to the swiftest, but to the person who is left after all others have quit.

20. give some REASONS -- and how bout some intelligence
on the part of the replies? If you're going to ignore the thread, than do it. Otherwise how about some convincing reasons why people shouldn't lose hope, or give up. There's quite a few people feeling a bit discouraged on any given day, so why attack them for it?

Maybe the in-fighting is half the reason the democratic party can't get it's sh|t together.

I won't apologize for being blunt, and I, for one have not lost hope yet, but it's really sad to see new people get attacked, especially with stupid statements like "oh look, I can put you on ignore, buh-bye".

Blueandwhite: welcome to the forums. Honestly, I can't speak for anyone else here about whether there's any real chance of over-turning the election results, but I have hope in fighting for our democracy -- whether it includes escorting Bush out early or not. On some days the coverage seems to be increasing, on others, not so much, so I can see why you feel the way you do. Don't give up yet... we have to all pull together!

31. Ok, this is a troll – right!

Let me at ‘em (I am new, but I think I can handle it!)

Well, well, well… Its time to move on? Don’t think so.

Here is what I see as happening. Upon taking a complete new vote in Ohio, the final, audited, and verifiable tally is, Bush <small number> Kerry <big number>. President Elect John F. Kerry will be sworn in on January 20, 2005. The dumfounded George W. Bush replies, ‘what?’. As he is packing his bags, White House staff informs him that it is time for another, yes another vacation at the ranch. He waves bye-bye not knowing it is the last time he will be back.

President Kerry and Vice-President Edwards begin work immediately, that day, and set forth in motion the plans for homeland security, quick fix the tax cuts for the wealthy, and our military departure from Iraq.

Presidents, indeed, set the ‘feel’ of the nation – employment figures rise as well as the stock market. And world leaders have a common sense of strength and unity – as do the people.

37. You definitely don't get the real issue here
The "why don't we move on" opinion misses the point of what people are so upset about. The point is not simply to see Kerry inaugurated in January 2005 instead of Bush. Of course, that would be great, and I would like to see it personally, but that is not seeing the true problem.

The problem is that there are national, widespread instances of voting irregularities, election machine malfunction, and inappropriate, partisan, and perhaps illegal behavior of election officials. The problem is that these irregularities, malfunctions, and inappropriate behavior is national and widespread, not isolated to a single state or county, which means that a reasonable person (and not only a Democrat) with even partial knowledge of these incidents could rightly doubt the integrity of the election results. The problem is the election integrity serves as one of the bedrocks of any democracy (refer to the current situation in Ukraine). The problem is that the 2000 presidential election also highlighted severe election problems in the United States, and that no constructive remedy was achieved, or even really pursued, afterward. The problem is that the only election improvements even attempted since 2000 is the Help America Vote Act, which accomplished little more than encouraging the proliferation of untested paperless voting machines across the country. The problem is that if we--Americans, not just Democrats--do not view the national, widespread irregularities and even blatant illegal behavior that is publicly known at this point, no thanks to the media, as an affront to our free society and democratic political system then we truly do not deserve to live in a democracy. The problem is that in a democracy the government is supposed to act on the will of the people, and if we do not systematically and comprehensively examine the widespread election irregularities nationally and use then use that information to promote, or even demand, change, then how much evidence of election fraud will it take before we demand more accountability from our government?

The point is not whether there is time to overturn the election results before January and inaugurate Kerry. The point is not even whether we gather enough evidence and generate enough doubt or disgust to force Bush from office in disgrace later in his second term. The point is that there is so much evidence pointing to suspicious, unethical, and illegal activities in this election that we owe it to our country to use this shameful moment in American history into an opportunity to improve our election system.

45. Relax, Just ignore voting rights for another four years...

And your vote won't be counted AGAIN!

Please tell me the point in "moving on" when
continued fraud will only cause continued losses.

You can thinktank strategies and court new voters
but no matter how many voters we have...

the count might always show a few more for your opponent.

This voting problem is now

and must be dealt with now.

...and if you won't deal with it,

then who will?

Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 02:56 AM by anotheryellowdog
If we resign ourselves to believing it's time to move on, then we must also resign ourselves to believing it's time for democracy to move on. Don't underestimate these people. It is no exaggeration to say they are fascists, and they are all the more dangerous because as true as that assertion is, most of them would never admit it even to themselves. Like Dubya, they really do believe they are chosen by God to turn back the clock to the Dark Ages. There are a few smart enough to recognize their own opinions as arrogance rather than divine inspiration. Their philosophy can perhaps best be summed up in the words of Rick Perry, Dubya's successor to the governorship of Texas. While he was still lieutenant governor of Texas, Perry's car, driven by an aide, was pulled over for speeding. Perry asked the patrolman what the holdup was and then, in an authoritarian manner, said to the trooper, "Why don't you just let us get on down the road?" An obviously intimidated trooper merely cited the staffer driving the car with a warning ticket < http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dallas/politics/state/newspaper/stories/102302dntexblitz.1ae33.html >. The bottom line is we must stop these arrogant Nazis now if we can because they have no intention of yielding either to reason, the rule of law, or the morality of a democratic system of government. Again, I do agree it's discouraging; however, we really have no choice but to fight them. Democracy itself is at stake.
