Ask the DNC to pay for the Washington State governor race recount
In the Washington State goveranor's race, the Republican won the first machine count by 261 votes (Reublican Dino Rossi over Democrat Christine Gregoire.)

That was followed by an automatic machine recount, which shrank the Republican lead to 42.

The next step should be a statewide hand-recount, but the Washigton State Democratc Party doesn't have the required $700,000.

The Democratic National Committee has the money, but is refusing to pay for a statewide hand-recount.

Please call the Democratic National Committee at:

1-202-863-8000

and tell them you want the DNC to pay for a statewide recount for the governor's race in Washington State.

1. Maybe the subject line should be more insulting or obscene?
HELP US!!! 42 cotton pickin' votes for a whole state. WA State is a PRIME third party breeding ground and this would be a VERY good reason.

7. I think the reason Wash Dems are not anxious to pay is....
that if the results change in favor of Gregoire (Dem) then the repukes
can ask for another hand recount, and they have the cash to pay for it.
In other words the $700,000 may go down the drain if Gregoire does not
make it in the first manual recount, and also if she loses the 2nd recount.

19. A partial hand recount is like rolling dice.
With a statewide hand recount, we can find out who actually was elected governor of Washington.

8. Why are the Dems being asked to pay for the hand recount?
First, the orginal tally threw the election, by Washington State law, into a mandatory machine recount.

That mandatory recount then, as far as I can tell, threw the election into a mandatory hand recount. (less than 150 votes and less than .25%)

I think the Dem lawyers in the state better take a closer look at what the law says.

Yes, you can request a hand recount and pay for that.

But RCW 29A.64.021 Mandatory Recounts, it if was followed, would seem to mandate a state hand recount at the state's expense.

And since the original vote was off, how do we know the second machine count was accurate?

I really think this whole thing is following that RCW step by step and it was the mandatory (state mandated) recount that threw it into the mandatory hand recount arena.

I'm not a lawyer but I think I'd want several different opinions than the one put forth by the Secretary of State and his legal counsel.

9. Democrats will pay for recount!
Just heard the from Judy Woodruff on CNN @ 4:14 ET.

They want to do hand counts but they may only be able to afford a machine recount.

11. They already did a machine-recount. Next they're going
to pay for a partial hand-recount, but those are difficult to pick.

Al Gore LOST votes in a precinct where he expected to gain. But if there had been a statewide recount of Florida, Gore would have won.

That's why I want a statewide hand-count of Washington state for the governor's race.
