"Whenever there is even a perception that there is a problem, then there is a problem. If people are raising questions then by God you sit down and you prove it so nobody has to take anyone's word for it. Why have four years of bitterness and doubt?"

1. Excellent article - thanks for posting.
Highlights how reasonable it is to request verification.

"My take is this could simply be a glitch. And if someone made a mistake, then it's an easy find," she said. "Thank God New Hampshire has a paper trail so we can just sit down and count the paper ballots."

Unlike states and counties using paperless touch-screen voting machines, New Hampshire passed a law in 1994 requiring all voting machines to produce a paper trail, so the paper can easily be used to verify the vote results.

and

"It will either show that there wasn't a problem with the machines or we'll find a problem and raise issues that need to be raised," Zeese said.

"Whenever there is even a perception that there is a problem, then there is a problem," Briggs said. "If people are raising questions then by God you sit down and you prove it so nobody has to take anyone's word for it. Why have four years of bitterness and doubt?"

6. The paper trail cure all
is meaningless if the whole system is not checked by it and the paper itself is not open to manipulation but most especially if

there is no recount each time, challenge or no. What I fear is an endless bragging about the paper trail bandage and the paper never gets counted, especially with breathtaking 'wins" that put it out of a free automatic recount. Also, how often can a touchscreen get it wrong before it proves the system is rotten?

The GEMS and touchscreen system with private proprietary, complex code is de facto a dangerously fraudulent concept. The idiots who buy these things(or crooks) should be removed from office as well for utter dereliction of duty regarding vote security..

8. True - the paper trail needs to be backed up with verification ALWAYS.
And I couldn't agree more with:

2. I love how calm and balanced Ida sounds
Who could argue that we just need to be sure there aren't "glitches"

3. Delicious thought
Try to project yourself into the heads of the Diebold and ES&S people reading articles like this and knowing how close they are to the truth being made public. Can't you just *feel* the cold sweat breaking out?

God bless Ida Briggs!

4. Ida is not playing the role of a conspiracy theorist.
My, my, what will the media do now? Accuse her of having a perception problem?
